Bush's tax cuts exceed social security shortfall.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/04/politics/04facts.html

"Mr. Furman also figured that assuming that the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 became permanent, their cost in lost revenue would also exceed the Social Security shortfall. The cuts would cost $344 billion in 2027 and $377 billion in 2033."

Bush's tough choice? He saves his tax cuts to his base - no surprise.

1. We all know why Shrub wanted the tax cuts. They were for his
Republican army. He also misled the middle-class and lower ones. They all thought they would get a big tax cut. They should have learned by now that when he opens his mouth and proposes things he is lying.

2. We need a list of SS talking points - and this should be on it
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 06:07 PM by Nothing Without Hope
I hope someone here at DU or elsewhere is assembling (or has assembled) a list of short, direct talking points for making the clearest points about the proposed SS scam. After all, the Rethugs have theirs!

3. So it all amounts to a massive
wealth redistribution scam - taking capital from the many and giving it to the (very) few.

4. Bush is the opposite of Robin Hood.
He takes from the poor to give to the rich everytime.

6. Jim Hightower: Social Security Works
"In 1939, two-thirds of America's senior citizens lived their 'golden years' in cold, hard poverty. Just a decade later, that percentage was down to half. By 1959, it was only one-third. Today, the number is less than 10 percent."

http://www.alternet.org/columnists/story/20850/

"B. S. ALERT, B. S. ALERT! Of all government programs – including the bloated, fraud-ridden Pentagon – Social Security is least in need of fixing. It's the most efficient program we have, requiring a mere one-percent of its total budget for administrative costs. And even the political mechanics who want to mess with the program admit that Social Security is perfectly sound and capable of paying full benefits to future retirees through at least 2042. What insurance company or bank can make that claim? And with only minor adjustment, the system is solid through 2075 – long after most of today's 'fixers' will be dead."
