These guys are not the guilty ones. These guys are thrown into the jaws of the war machine without the necessary implements of war. I gave my money to equip them properly.

At the same time, I oppose the Bush/Neocon agenda. That doesn't mean that I have to hate some mother's son, some little girl's daddy.

I want these guys home in one piece. Let's do something constructive and end the war, bring the boys back home, and save the lives of our own in the process. These are honorable men. They're risking their lives. I show them respect for their sacrifices. At the same time, I'd rather they were home.

the kind of snipers that fulfil the (as I understand it) original role/purpose of snipers - that is, to reduce the amount of bloodshed due to mass charges down to the bare minimum of deaths necessary to defeat an enemy force, such as taking out the leader, or the guy who fires the guns, or some such - i'd have a lot of respect for that. As I understand it, these aren't them.

Enlist, and adopt a .50 cal sniper rifle. If snipers are so awesome, wouldn't it be even better to be one?

I respect those in the military who choose to be snipers in order to minimize the loss of life among both American and enemy forces.

What I do not respect is the lame, pathetic worship of Freeper chickenhawks who want to vicariously identify themselves with military professionals while sitting in front of the keyboards, eating Cool Ranch nachos. These guys haven't the balls to enlist, but they are more than happy to attach their own names to the names of real soldiers in hopes of gaining respect from other plastic yellow ribbon chickenhawks.

In my view, they are fair game for for humor, just as the 400 pound drunks who give Mike Tyson advice on how to fight through the TV screen are fair game for jokes.

in Milwaukee insisted the College Republicans remove exhibits that advertised their "adopt a sniper" program. The program supposedly provides body armor and supplies for military snipers in Iraq.

The college claimed the program was at odds with Catholic/Jesuit beliefs.

21. I don't have a problem with the adopt a sniper program

I don't necessarily agree with the language used in the bake sale, but don't have a problem with raising money to help the soliders get equipment. Their job is brutal and not 'nice', but might be necessary in times of war (I did watch the History Channel thing; whether the war is legit is a whole different discussion....). They're putting their lives on the line, and deserve the equipment necessary to do their job. The official website is much more reasonable than the College Republicans. I'd love to see these young Republicans go over and fight instead of just stirring stuff up, but don't think that their intent here is anything bad.

Like I said, I disagree with the terminology and attitude, but don't have a problem with the program raising money to equip the snipers. I'd also much rather have the young Republicans signing up themselves for Iraq than stirring stuff up here, but I don't think that will happen.

Students wanted to send money to US snipers in Iraq

A US university in Wisconsin has blocked an attempt by Republican students to raise money for a group called Adopt a Sniper.

The group raises money for US sharp-shooters in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Students were selling bracelets bearing the motto: "1 Shot 1 Kill No Remorse I Decide".
