This nation is bluer than you think.....
The problem's just the damn white rednecks. If there wasn't such of a white majority in this country I think Democrats would be in the White House right now. By the way, I'm white so just lettin' you know before you start accusing me of racism.

1. Glad you clarified that
I was about to scream "I'm a white Democrat!!"

The people with the money are the ones with the power....keep that in mind.

9. I'm proud to be a democrat in the old FDR/JFK/Tip O'Neill sense.
But the present party of spineless pink tutus that fellate Bush at every chance really makes me sick.

As for being white, I'm neither proud nor ashamed of that. How can you be proud of your race, something that is not an achievement, and that you had nothing to do with?

I'm proud of the good things I've done with my life, not the circumstances I was born into. That makes no sense.

Those "damn white rednecks" keep voting for their own destruction. It's really sad to see.

7. the name of the president's abode is unfortunate
I just realized while considering your statement "If there wasn't such of a white majority in this country I think Democrats would be in the White House right now" how unfortunate it is that the centre of power in your country is a building called the "White" House. As federal institutions go, names like "Congress" and "Supreme Court" at least reflect the intentions of America's much-admired constitution. But "White House" inevitably conjures a correlation to the nation's troubled racial history.

It does sort of evoke some stately mansion where the white people gather to plot how to run the country... which sadly often seems to be the very case.

Perhaps a change of name would help return the executive residence to something more in keeping with the founding principles of the US. Like "Liberty House" or "The Batcave" or "Chez Prez".

Here in Canada, the Prime Minister's official residence is saddled with the more neutral name of "24 Sussex Drive." OK, it doesn't have the punch of "The White House", but in a way, it's actually much more reflective of democratic principles. The PM's house has an ordinary street address like any citizen, and while that particular street name is of anglo-saxon origins, it doesn't imply exclusivity: anyone could live on a street with a name like Sussex Drive. (Mind you, all the PMs of Canada so far have been white, so there is no guarantee of its effectiveness.)

Still, come on, "The White House", a little obvious, don't you think?? :eyes:

8. If we were to call it by the address, it would be 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

10. actually, it used to be other colors before the British burnt it down.
they found layers of other colors during a restoration. because of the blackened sides, they painted it white, a color that covered the destruction. We could have had the Blue House, the Red House. I personally like the Pink House. Oh, sorry. That's the Senate.
