Bush Spending Plan to Slow Defense Growth- February 5, 2005

Bush plans to send his roughly $2.5 trillion spending plan for 2006 to lawmakers Monday. But as details leaked out, it was clear that even the Pentagon -- a bipartisan priority at a time of war -- was going to face some restraints, at least for now.

1. Cheney as Def Sec wanted to cut way more then Kerry actually ever did.

But does that in and of itself make either man wrong or irresponsible? I guess it does if you are unwilling or unable to put each man's thought process into any sort of context, but hey we Americans don't want context. Hearing someone wanted to cut this or increase that without context is much easier to digest and enables us to get on with our self absorbed lives a lot quicker. Until the next election when we find out the bullshit sold to us by the other guy was actually bullshit and the cycle starts all over again.

It should be cut. Further down in the story you find that Bush wants it to ramp up again later on. That was the effect of the 'cuts' that they were deriding Kerry for. Budget priorities are one thing, policy is another matter.
