Promise kept

It wouldn't have been a Bush visit without one of those little slips that make him popular among the late-night TV hosts.

He had just asked 30-year-old Mike Borger if he expected to see any Social Security payments by the time he retires.

"I hope to," Borger replied.

The president then interrupted him to make a point. "I just want to stop you," he said. "I promise you're going to get more than two words in here."

1. What a Dumbass!
also from the article:

When Amy Borger said they were expecting their third child in April, he said: "Awesome, yes." Then he suddenly said, "Georgia! You're going to name it Georgia? No?"

"No," she replied.

"I don't blame you," he said.

Amy said later that the new son will be named Troy.

2. He wanted them to name their child after him.
And by saying "You're going to name it Georgia" he thought he could convince them to do it.

4. What an idiot.
Last night I attended John Kerry's party for Massachusetts volunteers. He, Kam, Ted Kennedy and Teresa all spoke fluently, eloquently, and profoundly (there is a copy of the Globe's coverage in the "general" forum).

* is such a jerk, I wish he would just crawl back to Texas.

7. he's used that "Georgia" joke before -- I don't think it got a laugh then

DUBYA: How's your child, April?
REPORTER: She's wonderful.
DUBYA: Georgia W?
REPORTER: My husband is watching, and the name is Ryan Tyler James.
DUBYA: You might as well turn to the camera when you say that.
-- Oddball exchange Dubya had with a female reporter that almost leaves Dubya sounding like he's trying to claim fatherhood, White House, Nov. 7, 2002
