"GOP proposed bill that would suspend all laws"
"Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall have the authority to waive, and shall waive, all laws such Secretary, in such Secretary's sole discretion, determines necessary..."

"House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) introduced the Real ID Act on Wednesday which contains the terrorist travel provisions that were stripped from the 9/11 Intelligence legislation..."

Neato! I was tired of that whole separation-of-powers thing anyways. More exciting to put all the power in the Executive branch, so it can turn into a military junta.

1. I hope the senators actually read this bill before voting.
Unlike the patriot act they passed without reading it with the exception of Senator Feingold who read it and voted against it.

11. Good! Now we can get that gun control taken care of
When you are Republican does that mean you have to attend "Stupid" school?

This war on terror...there won't be anything left to protect when its over. So far we've certainly lost more than the terrorists. Hell, we're terrorizing ourselves!

7. "Homeland" should have given it away.
Homeland translates into German as Fatherland (Viterlund), which was frequently used in Nazi Germany.

There is no precedent for the use of this word "homeland" in the United States Government.

Let's not just hope the lawmakers read it. This is an item that should be targeted for massive action across the progressive community.

5. Okay, fine, but what's the latest on Michael Jackson?
I mean, seriously, the mainstream media hasn't mentioned this, so how important can it be.

No, wait ... :wtf:

I'm sure this won't be the last time they try to negate the rule of law, but it's definitely not the first. :scared:

15. From my reading it appears
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 06:06 PM by alfredo
he can waive any laws that may get in the way of building a barrier or road between us and Mexico. It also give immunity to the Director of Fatherland security for any act committed in conjunction with this construction.

(2) NO JUDICIAL REVIEW- Notwithstanding any other provision of law (statutory or nonstatutory), no court shall have jurisdiction--

`(A) to hear any cause or claim arising from any action undertaken, or any decision made, by the Secretary of Homeland Security pursuant to paragraph (1); or

`(B) to order compensatory, declaratory, injunctive, equitable, or any other relief for damage alleged to arise from any such action or decision.'.

So if someone tries to stop the barrier being built across his land, The Fatherland security chief can do what he wants with those who disagree and the courts have no jurisdiction. He could plow down a whole town and there is not a damn thing that can be done about it.

From what I gather, bush wants total immunity for government and business.

17. What?
Yall don't trust the Homeland to the government? You think they might do stuff that should be out of their reach because of the constitution?

Geeez, maybe I oughta go to freeperville, a place with complete trust in the 'Vathers'.

(2) NO JUDICIAL REVIEW- Notwithstanding any other provision of law (statutory or nonstatutory), no court shall have jurisdiction--

And neither the House or Senate have enough votes to ditch the Constitution.
