What's wrong with Harrison Ford?
I'm just dissapointed.
The news in Germany did report today that Harrison Ford will be the main actor in a propaganda movie about the "liberation" of Falludja.
And the character, Harrison Ford is about to play, is exactly the guy, who has made it to every newspaper worldwide lately with his remarks about, how much fun it is to kill inferior brown people, who don't belong to the new Herrenmenschen.

This is sick!

3. I don't
but I do expect it somehow, although esp. Harrsion Ford did always play very complex characters full of doubts, but on the other hand, he did play in propaganda movies too, like the one, where he did play an american president. But it was still Harrison Ford. I have to admit, I didn't think about it being any kind of critical or serious movie, given the present situation in Iraq.

11. Did you ever stop to consider that maybe Mattis is a complex
character full of doubts?

Seriously, we know he said a stupid, idiotic, demeaning thing - but we don't know shit from shinola on the rest of his character. And, I would venture to say that all of us have said stupid, idiotic and demeaning things in our lives. If you haven't, then, all I can said is, "Praise Be - Jesus hath returned!"

Please, lets not be as judgmental as Freepers. OK?

14. Was "Air Force One"
really a "propaganda" film? Seriously...

I found it to be a silly, somewhat entertaining, run of the mill, action flick.

I've heard that Ford himself is a liberal/ Democrat and dislikes Bush.

2. Didn't we have a huge flame war about this in the Lounge...
a few months ago? Oh yea, we did. :eyes:

You're jumping the gun before you even know how the character is portrayed. And besides, Mr Ford is a democrat, and a very good man.

4. This is a bit confusing for me...
I did hear about this film for the first time today in the German news.
And the comments of this sick fashist massmurder did just make it to the news on wednesday, at least here in Germany, and Rumsfeld rejected to comment the remarks of this criminal.

5. Yes we had a flame war and harrison might be playing a fuckwad

he is portraying a general or some Marine high officer that got "removed" from Iraq because of the Pentagon's decision to flatten Fallujah(after the spring 2004 assault that DIDN'T). Ford's character didn't agree with Rumsfeld.

on edit:

Ford to play Mattis. Mattis left Iraq in August 2004

Harrison's True Glory
Will star in Iraq war movie.

December 17, 2004 - Variety reports that Harrison Ford will star in the first major feature film about the current war in Iraq. Ford is attached to portray Maj. Gen. James N. Mattis, then commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, who led the U.S. assault on Fallujah following the gruesome slayings of four American contractors in March 2004.

Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher will produce the film based on the upcoming book No True Glory: The Battle for Fallujah by Bing West, a former Marine and assistant secretary of defence for international security affairs. No True Glory will be published in May.

West, a reporter for Slate, will also pen the screenplay adaptation. His son Owen has served in Iraq.

Feb 04, 2005

“It's fun to shoot some people,” said the Marine Corps Lt. Gen. James Mattis while speaking at a forum in San Diego. His comments though appeared funny to some at the forum, have led to annoyance of many including his higher officials.

Who knows what will happen to this film. Mattis made the statement almost 2 months after Harrison Ford was connected to that film.

8.  “It's fun to shoot some people,” said the Lt. Gen. James Mattis...
Sorry folks!
In Germany the message from Feb. 4 was reported FIRST and later it was reported that Harrison Ford will portray him...
I can only remember one failed film, where Ford did portray a patriotic Pretzel...

19. Has anyone ever thought that Mattis deliberately said that about
shooting people. Perhaps it was the only way he could get out the message about the horrors of war, and what we were making our soldiers into?

on script approval, director approval, lots of things.

This movie might not even get made. You never know.

You gotta be kidding me. That's like making a movie about the Allied invasion of Europe two weeks after the landing at Omaha beach.

13. The March 2004 "battle" was a stalemate
It didn't go anywhere. We bombed the hell out of them, killed lots of people, exchanged fire with insurgents for a few weeks, took casualties, and then pulled back when the orders came down from Team Bush to keep casualties at a minimum during the campaign season. At best it could be called a stalemate, at worst it could be classified as a defeat. They want to try and make a movie about that???

10. At the last moment Keanu Reeves will step in to play Fords part
with his insistence that they find a staring role for horse face Julia Roberts the entire production will fall to bits.

That's my hope.

Yes this Sadistic fuck "the guy, who has made it to every newspaper worldwide lately with his remarks about, how much fun it is to kill"

IS SICK!

16. Nothing's wrong with him.
He's an actor. Playing roles is what he does. It's true! I know this is true because, well, I was a theatre major.

Seriously, it's also true that it's often the genuinely despicable character that's the most interesting and challenging for an actor. Think Hannibal Lechter or Gordon Gekko. For that matter, which acress do you think found her role in Fatal Attraction more fascinating, Anne Archer or Glen Close?

But we can only hope the movie has an anti-war message. Not propaganda like Black Hawk Down, but more like The Three Kings.
