The Prophet Mohammad, a documentary on Link T.V. at 8 a.m. this morning.

I thought I would post this in case anyone would like to watch it. I have never really seen that much about Mohammad.

I know there are no likenesses of him like we have of Jesus because the Muslims feel if there were images of Mohammad, then it would be possible for other Muslims to worship Mohammad The Prophet (as we do Jesus Christ) rather than worshiping just Allah. That's what I have read about a little in the past.

Should be interesting.

they take the commandment against graven images more generally, that to create any artistic representation of an actual human being is sinful. That's why Muslim arts tend to be non-representational, either those elaborate geometric patterns (appropriately referred to as "arabesque") or, more recently, abstract expressionist.

2. Thanks. After 9/11 I started searching on line regarding everything . . .

about this religion, these countries, the people. I just wanted to try to get a grip on why someone, in the name of their God, could do such a horrible thing to other human beings. I just had to find an answer but there is not one out there.

I have really become more educated about our own government, its policies, and the horrible things our own government has done, wanted to do, and continues to do today.

However, I was still angry at these men who killed innocent people. Nothing justifies that. I can understand their hate toward the U.S., but killing innocent people is not the answer.

Just like what our government is doing to the Iraqi people. Nothing justifies it . . . nothing.

3. Osama is *not* representative

He's a profoundly sick, evil man, and I am certain that his version of Islam is something Mohamet would immediately and unequivocally condemn.

However, there's a lot of precedent. The Palestinian cause has led many devout Moslems to cobble up Koranic justifications for armed revolt against oppressors. I don't think these justifications are well argued or morally sound, but they're part of the discourse in Moslem countries, so the people are used to hearing these sorts of arguments. Partly just because they're so outrageous, these ideas continue to get around-- and the counter-arguments don't get as much publicity, because they're reasonable, and therefore kinda boring.

Christendom has had the same problem, repeatedly. Torquemada was willing to torture hundreds to prove his own righteousness. I think the Popes that backed the Crusades were as cynical as the Bushies. And now we have wingnuts like General Boykin walking around telling people that our God is bigger than Allah.

It takes two to tango, and both sides are way too eager to dance.
