I love when chicken hawks just over military age try to spin...
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 02:36 PM by vi5
The Kos and Atrios links to Jonah Goldberg's excuses about being 35 and having kids and not being able to afford the lost income to go fight in the war he cheerleads for makes me laugh and I love when the people my age (35 and slightly over try to spin their way out with that crap. I pull out that both of my grandfathers were over 34, married, and with kids when they went off to fight world war two. Both my grandmothers found people to watch the kids and went off to work to support the family in their husband's absence.

If conservatives love to compare our current struggle to world war two then so be it. But I'm going to hold their sorry asses to the same standard my grandparents were held to in that war. Or should I say held themselves to. If you think this war is truly for the safety of the free world then nothing would keep you away from fighting it.

1. "lost income"??
Cry me a river, hypocrites. The poor Guardsmen who have lost their jobs and income (and some, their lives) spit in your lying faces.
:nopity:

2. My neighbor, a 35 year old immigrant from Romania volunteered for WWII.
He said he did it because he LOVED this country. Left his wife and kids here and got his leg filled with shrapnel on Omaha Beach. He spent one year recovering in Iowa and his wife traveled from Chicago by bus once each month to visit him. He lived for over 50 years with chronic pain and shrapnel still in his leg.

I think I'll send his story to Mr. Goldberg.

4. My favorite is when they try to compair casualties btw. Iraq and WWII.
They always fail to mention that in WWII we were fighting an army of comparable size, and technology. In Iraq we are using our very best technology against weapons comparable to what you would find in a survivalists tool shed.

5. Jonah Goldberg could go to Iraq as a journalist and cover
it without a loss of income.

He doesn't want to go to Iraq because he doesn't think it's safe.

Condeleezza's job as head of reconstruction wasn't so wonderful.

But she still got promoted to Secretary of State because rewarding failure is one of George W.'s favorite activities.

7. My Uncle Lied About His Age, Trying to Get Into WW II
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 03:11 PM by Sporadicus
He was over 50 and already a WW I veteran when he tried to enlist for WW II, but the local head of the SSS knew him and his true age. Therefore, he was denied. He left his job as a road construction superintendent to work in a rubber factory - a strategic defense industry at the time that was taken over by the federal government - operating a heavy press. He hated the job, loving working outdoors for so many years - but he wanted to do something he felt essential for the war effort. He resigned on VJ day, saying, 'on the day Japan surrendered, so did I!' He lifted a 150-lb. die/mold and heaved it through a nearby window before he left that job.

11. Jonah's deal
Jonah knows that wars are for the poor people to fight. They've got nothing better to do, their lives aren't so valuable. Their families aren't as important. Those people aren't like Jonah, they are expendable.

Jonah is from privileged America, one of the elite who is too good for war.

Jonah has always been 35; he's always had one excuse or another as to why he couldn't go defend his country. Jonah was 35 during Desert Storm, as well.

12. Mewling, fatass, mama's boy Jonah Goldberg couldn't...
have made it through basic training at the age of 18. That loathsome piece of shit isn't fooling anyone.

Sonofabitch isn't just a figure of speech when applied to Goldberg.

16. But they can...
...head over. They are free to go to work for Halliburton and the other private entities that are over there.

Just hand them a Brown & Root application. With the cash those companies are waving around for that duty, their families might actually start pulling in more income with Dad overseas.

No chickenhawk is exempt anymore. They can all sign up to do something.

That is, if they're really as dedicated as they say.

18. Take every opportunity to tell them their opinions mean NOTHING
Seriously, if they're cheer-leading for this nonsense, and able to serve, they need to be over there. Period.

Until then, their opinions mean nothing. Sign up or shut up.

It's that simple.

20. "War Hero" Bob Dole -
tried his best to fake being intelligent enough for Medical school.

After being told his grades were not up to par, he did go to the military.

Got his ass shot up (in far less time than John Kerry spent in Vietnam!) and came back to the US with a bum arm that he paraded around every time he went up against anybody.

22. No such thing as "too old" for this war
If you ask, they'll take you. They're hurting for warm bodies. Everybody knows it.

The recent posthumous Medal of Honor recipient from Jacksonville was 33.

Won't make a difference, though. The reason the insane right is in the catbird seat is that they're audacious, relentless, and shameless. Goldberg's just taken a double pasting for being a chickenhawk and for tangling with Juan Cole. Think that'll give him pause? Nah. He'll spew something even more retarded tomorrow and today's dumbassery will be forgotten. Limbaugh blazed the trail long ago, heap outrage upon outrage and you won't be held accountable for any of them.
