How cool is this? Freepers got to be pissed.....
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 04:01 PM by givemebackmycountry
John Fogerty is singing right now at the pre-game gala for the Super Bowl.

Struts out and opens with what song?

"Fortunate Son"

"It ain't me, It ain't me, I ain't no senators son"
"It ain't me, It ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one"

Sound like anyone we know?

GOOD FOR HIM!!!!

In your FACE FREEP-SCUM!!!!

3. Ha ha
good for John Fogerty.

Wonder how many people thought it was simply a Wrangler's jeans commercial song? Always made me mad that they butchered the song-whenever I saw the commercial I'd sing the lyrics you posted.

4. Full Lyrics
Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail To The Chief",
oh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no senator's son,
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no,

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman come to the door,
Lord, the house look a like a rummage sale, yes,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no millionaire's son.
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no.

Yeh, some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
ooh, they send you down to war, Lord,
And when you ask them, how much should we give,
oh, they only answer, more, more, more, yoh,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no military son,
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no no no,
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate son, no no no,

- John C, Fogerty

6. That reminds me
How much time does GHWB (Bush41) ever spend at his "primary residence" hotel room in Texas? (Of course, for tax purposes).

I still have my "honorary resident of the State of Texas" certificate as requested through the Doonesbury strip shortly after . . .

7. Bush the Smarter actually has a house in Houston now.
It's in West Oaks, near Tanglewilde--perhaps Houston's 3rd or 4th most prestigious neighborhood. The house was not built until after Clinton had booted him from DC; news stories at the time commented that it was a very small lot. His "permanent residence" in Houston had been at the Houstonian & it was probably a suite rather than a room.

Found this gem about his West Oaks property:

On February 4, 1981, after he became Vice President, George Bush bought a lot in West Oaks, Texas, as the site of a future home in an all-white community. Bush signed a contract with a clause that the land could not "be sold, leased or rented to any person other than of the Caucasian race, except in the servant's quarters." He has signed several other similar deeds since the 1950's. Bush's spokesperson said, "There's really nothing to this."

Just across the street. For now, they're still living in the house she got out of her last marriage.

So if anyone has a clip of this proformance, I would REALLY appreciate seeing it! Grrr.... They only show the football overhere, I miss all the good parts of the super bowel, like this and the US commercials (which is the best reason I can find to watch it.)

5. Very Cool!
When I tuned in he was just about to come on and I thought how cool it would be if he played "Forunate Son" and sure enough he did - totally awesome. Then "Bad Moon Rising" - an extra bonus.
I know he's not a fan of the forunate one....

It would be great if McCartney opened with "Back In The USSR".

9. That is soooo cool! Especially since James Hatfield used the tune
to expose the criminal Bush.

The Freepers may not get it today but they will when their daily e-mail talking points from the GOP are delivered! Way to go, John!

Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 05:45 PM by ribrepin
Don't clue them in. Then Fogerty can keep playing the songs. It's like a secret sign to all against the Bush machine.

Otherwise, Fogerty might be sponge-bobbed.

15. They don't know
I've been watching locally produced military commercials on AFN in Japan for over a decade and Fortunate Son has long been a hackneyed favorite for background music. They've heard it in plenty of war movie soundtracks, so it must be a fitting jam for all things martial, right? The irony escapes them.

19. Way to go John!!! A few freeps might get it but
I used "fortunate son" to describe * back in 2000 and the RWers in the room looked at me with a blank stare. I had to explain it to them.
sigh.
