4. Ugly
nasty, mean, destructive, greedy, power monger, hater .. all things UGLY.

See:

http://search.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/neocon101.html

"Neocons" believe that the United States should not be ashamed to use its unrivaled power – forcefully if necessary – to promote its values around the world. Some even speak of the need to cultivate a US empire. Neoconservatives believe modern threats facing the US can no longer be reliably contained and therefore must be prevented, sometimes through preemptive military action.

17. Not liberals. Bomb-throwing Leftists
who became bomb-throwers for the Right. Absolutist ideologues who flipped.
Another old "conservative," Irving Kristol said this to Corey: "What's the point of being the greatest, most powerful nation in the world and not having an imperial role?"

"It's too bad," Kristol lamented about money-grubbing. "I think it would be natural for the United States...to play a far more dominant role in world affairs...to command and to give orders as to what is to be done. People need that."

6. Foreign policy is biggest difference
Neoconservatives want to use the power of the US military towards are economic advantage, generally using terms such as spreading democracy and defending free markets to justify this.

Neoconservatives do not have the opposition to big government as traditiional conservatives do. For example, they had no qualms about programs such as the Medicare prescription drug bill. To a neoconservative, it is a worthwhile program if it would bring in the votes of seniors, and it is an added benefit that it was a big payoff for their supporters in the pharmaceutical and insurance industries.

Oxford: An advocate or supporter of a moderate type of democratic capitalism.

BuyingThyme: A Republican right-wing extremist whose motives and agenda are closely aligned with or defined by those of his right-wing extremist counterparts in Israel.

Bush is not a neocon, but the people pulling his strings are.

10. It's mainly a foreign policy thing
Some neocons are almost liberals when it comes to social policy. When people yell at the neocons for implementing Bush's idiotic "values" agenda, they should really be yelling at the theocons.

...of the word "neocon" occurred early last year:

Early in 2004, somebody in the White House released a statement proclaiming that "neocon" had become an anti-Semitic term.

They were trying to get the press off the backs of Richard Perle and other dual citizens. What the White House didn't realize was that not many people were paying attention, in the first place, to the ethnic backgrounds of the people writing their policy...That is, not until they brought up the whole "anti-Semitic" nonsense.

14. Foreign policy ideology - militarist, imperialist, "pro-democracy"
The use of neocon in reference to Republican economics or social agendas is incorrect. The neoconservatives are *only* interested in installing American dominance by force of arms and "liberating" people of governments they do not like.

They really don't care about anything else.

The first half of the description will probably come across as fairly "positive" to most people. This description makes it like "neocons" are a "mix" between liberal and conservative, as if the "social welfare" programs that they support are geared towards helping the average citizen.

Anyway, I think neocons are mainly characterized by their foreign policy approach, not domestic policy. True conservatives have more of an "isolationistic" view of foreign policy. Neocons are more extreme and wreckless, not socially, but in terms of foreign policy, making them cowards since they are not the ones actually out there fighting for this "aggressive" approach.

A lot of them are big on "dual citizenship" with Israel because a lot of them have Jewish roots. Of course I don't have a problem with helping Israel out, but I also don't support starting wars for no reason either.
