I like John McCain but I don't know why.
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 05:41 PM by Eric J in MN
McCain's speech at the Republican National Convention supported the they-hate-us-for-our-freedom bunk.

This morning on tv he endorsed Bush's Social Security scheme.

So why do I find John McCain likeable?

But he doesn't walk the talk.
He's a goose-stepper.

6. That might be it.
With Bush and Cheney, I feel like they're always lying, and don't even care if half the people know they're lying.

5. He doesn't like Bush
is my guess, but you can't look at his positions very closely and still be in love. He even used Chile as an example of why we have to move to 43's SS program; does he read what has happened in Chile?

even more, the way he seems to become outraged when confronted with things that offend his sense of what is right. It's such a relief to see someone get mad when they should, instead of the compliant response that is almost universal among politicians now.

But he voted for both Rice and Gonzales, and he also did the other things you point out as well as many others. I have had to rethink and question my spontaneous liking for the man. Taking his record and the words from his own mouth, he is a card-carrying member of the blivet** cartel and so is not to be trusted.

Too bad, I'm saddened by the loss of one more apparent hero, but it's another situation where the truth hurts but must be faced.

18. I always think of that image, also
when I start to forgive him for lying down with the dogs who painted him as a traitor for being a POW. I start to relent and then think of him snuggling up with GWB. Sickening. A man labels you a traitor to your country and you embrace him? Unthinkable. Has the man no pride?
Or was he just checking for Bush's puppet strings?

10. he has no core beliefs that he will defend to the death. He supported
Bush and hurt his daughter. He hurt his wife. That makes him dirt to me, just dirt.

remember what was done to his family by Bushco and he was willing to not say a damn word about this time all because of his own political aspirations, thats pretty sick IMO.

His record isn't that good. He's definitely in the hip pocket of the corporations. I don't know why you like him unless it's just his personality that appeals to you.

19. I would have voted for McCain in 2000
lately he's been too cozy with the extreme right though. Can't believe they chose shrub over him in the primaries. Proof of a Bush clan conspiracy if you ask me. Did they fix the 2000 primaries too?

20. I definitely think they did. In a normal world McCain would have
been the GOP candidate. I also have no respect for him because of that campaign. After the lengths the Bush campaign went to discredit him, he still has his nose stuck up their asses.

21. I don't like McCain
but to answer your question, he did stick up for Kerry a few times during the campaign. At one point he was asked if Kerry would make a good president and he said yes.

22. Why would you like a back stabber?
because that's what McCain is. He really backstabbed Kerry. Kerry pulled those ads with McCain going after bush for bashing his military record. Why? Because McCain asked him too. Then McCain turns around and bashes Kerry. I can't stand to look at McCain. He goes on TV shows, tries to act cool, laughs at bush, then turns around and kisses his ass. He's an insincere two faced bastard. What's to like?

25. Every once in a while...
...he seems to find the 'nads that let him survive those years in Vietnam.

And when he does, you see the definition of a fine American patriot, however briefly, before his current lapdog persona reasserts itself.
