Military Super Bowl theme
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 06:27 PM by Rex
Will they throw bread to the gathered crowds? Will Bush eat cake?

Hey it's Bill and George! Will they play each other in a 1vs1? Hehe

1. Might have to buy
I may have to buy the lingerie bowl on ppv at halftime, just to make up for the pregame jingoism.

2. Maybe it's because I rarely watch TV
but it seems to be that the airways been literally taken over by military propaganda.

It is sickening!

3. I agree.
It seems one can't even watch the Super Bowl to get their mind off of war.

9. Amurka is now a commercial product, marketed by fear and propaganda,
she is praised for showing disdain for other democratic entities round the world, claims the right to unilaterally bomb anyone she chooses civilians be damned, she has lost sight of her constitution, and is treading that thin line between hollow democracy and totalitarian dictatorship.

She's essentially toast, a slave to corporate pressure and influence. Who will help her recover from the jingoistic stupor she now finds herself lost in... who will go, who will right this ship... who indeed.

5. This is totalitarianism, you can't escape it
...big brother says we all agree that super bowl is a national belligerence event. This is being broadcast internationally! Another new low for America.

6. Well maybe I'm an old softee,
but I thought the Star Spangled Banner was way better than usual.

They usually put some stylist schmuck trying to move records out there.

If you can't get Jamie-Lynn Sigler for the anthem, then the combined choirs of our service academies makes a fine alternate choice.

The flyover is obligatory even in peacetime.

14. Those who invoke Godwin's law lose the argument also....
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 08:05 PM by Stop_the_War
From Wikipedia:

whoever points out that Godwin's law applies to the thread is also considered to have "lost" the battle, as it is considered poor form to invoke the law explicitly

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law

YOU also lose.

17. I didn't invoke the law.
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 10:18 PM by Shadowen
I invoked http://web.morons.org/feature/rants/godwin.jsp">Nick's Corollary, which specifically expands Godwin's Law from Usenet groups to all other Internet-based and electronic discussions, as well as adding some phrases to which Godwin's law applies.

In any case, the point was lost immediately upon Nazis being referenced; you can't lose a Superbowl (to be timely) by mooning the opposing team after the game's over.

12. the Super Bowl is a time for unity not nationalism..
it's depressing that we can't honor our Vets or enjoy a football game without anger and politics taking center stage. This is another example of how Congress and the President have weakened and divided our country for their personal benefit.

15. Look, I'm all for supporting the troops
I want them safe, and I want them brought home now to their families, not abused under false pretenses by a criminal administration.

But having said that ... this non-stop, 24-hour militarization of our country makes me sick. Let's see, what other nations do this on a regular basis? North Korea, China, Russia (used to, anyway. Don't know if they still parade the troops like they once did), the Nazis ...

Does any other remotely Democratized nation do this?

first I watch the Superbowl and get depressed, then I try reading today's paper..and only feel worse. Then I call Lauri Flanders' show, and fall asleep while on hold. I wake up only to learn that I've been cut off and the show is already over..man what a rotten day!!!

19. How do you think rabid nationalism is promoted in this country??
Why do you think most Americans can't distinguish diplomacy and politics from this 'my team' vs 'their teams'. Rah, rah Go Team! Go USA! Same shit.

21. Fortunate Son
Did anyone notice that John Fogerty sang "Fortunate Son" during the pre-game? The sound was terrible, the band was bad, and Fogerty's voice was not up to par, but oh, the joy of hearing that song before the Superbowl!

22. Michael Douglas
Did you notice him saying that troops were "protecting America"? From what? I wonder.

They showed troops in Afghanistan: they haven't caught Bin Laden and women are still in danger if they go outside without a male family member to escort them.

They showed troops from Iraq: No WMD and no clear a nd present danger to America.

They showed troops in Germany: I didn't know they were a threat to us... :wtf:

They showed troops in Korea: ditto

Thanks, Michael, for keeping us informed... :puke:
