SOTU speech guest, US might have helped Saddam kill her dad

The Iraqi woman, Ms. Sofia Taleb Al Souhail, who was an honored guest at Busholini's SOTU speech has been reported to have a sister, Nora, who has accused the US of informing Saddam that their father was involved in organizing a coup against Saddam. Consequently Saddam had him bumped off and his aides tortured. According to Nora's views, the reason the US didn't want the coup to succeed at the time (1993) was that her father would not be sufficiently compliant for US taste.

Nora al Tamimi, daughter of slain Iraqi opposition
activist Taleb al Suhail al Tamimi, said from Beirut in
a newspaper interview published Saturday that her father
had planned a coup d'etat to overthrow Saddam in 1993,
operating from Beirut and Amman.

"Zero hour was set for a certain June day in 1993 to
stage the coup when Saddam would have been sponsoring an
official event in Baghdad," Nora told the London-based
Asharq Al Awsat newspaper in an interview conducted at
the family house in Beirut.

"But the Americans, who did not want the coup to succeed
possibly because they were certain my father would not
go along with their polices, tipped off Saddam about the
impending putsch by my father and gave the names of his
top aides," Nora said. "All of them died in Saddam's
torture chambers."

Now it looks like sister Sofia is getting the Washington red carpet treatment and apparently Bill Hemmer mused recently on CNN that she would be the Mayor of Baghdad one day. Speculation by Kos is that perhaps some ass covering is going on here and some debts are being called in and being repayed.
