I can't believe the telemarketing call I just got! I'm on the "Do Not
Call List". I got a call from these same people last week trying to get me to refinance my mortgage. I told them then I was on the list and didn't want calls. They just called back! When I pointed out they called last week and I did not want calls, I was told to "Shut up"!!!!

I can't believe these people. They should be in jail with the repubs. Yes, I filed a complaint.

1. They actually told you to shut up?
That's pretty incredible. Are you sure it wasn't Bill O'Reilly calling you?

2. Did they have an accent?
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 07:46 PM by merh
The call I got last week from a telemarketer was similiar, the woman had an asian voice and when I told her that I was on the no-call list and to please strike my name from whatever list she has and never call again, she just hung up!

I laughed out of anger and just thought "outsourcing"!

24. Does the law include calls originating from other countries?
This could be a telemarketing exec's wet dream.

25. I would think if they are calling for an American company, then
that company is bound by the No Call List. But you know, it probably will be a way for them to get around the list. :freak:

3. I love telling them that we refuse to make any financial move until Bush
is out of office.

I say we don't trust him and the little money we had to spare in the past has disappeared thanks to Bush's legislation that got rid of overtime pay.

8. Good Going!
That's what I would say too. I never fail to inject a statement of displeasure with Shrub whenever someone badgers me on anything relating to the economy.

pay overtime. That's why it was rarely mentioned as an issue .

My spouse works in a newsroom, and overtime pay is now GONE.

In a newsroom, there are some departments who are often stuck working overtime thanks to daily deadlines.

People forget that newspapers are mostly corporate-owned, and they are not about to to complain about legislation that puts more money into the corporate coffers, even if it takes away from those workers trying to raise families on 30-50,000 a year.

Now do you understand why the media barely covered it as an issue last year?

4. In CT they can get a huge fine for calling, unless
they're within 6 degrees of separation from a bank you do business with!

Tell them you'rer on the "List" and will report them. See what they say. Here they hang up immediately. But with Jeb in charge it might not make much difference. (I an thinking you're in Florida because of you're name).

10. Since they called back after you told them
you were on the do not call list I believe you can take them to small claims court and sue them for $500- $1000. I think that was one of the provisions of the list.

15. Try to get their toll free # by playing along or star 69, then you can
(from home or a phone booth) call them repeatedly and waste their time

It really sends them into orbit

"You better quit that....." BZZZZZZZ (press any key)

Someday I want to use two side by side payphones & put them on the line with each other

I try to call ten times for every one time they call me

17. That's when you fuck with their heads.
"I'm sorry, my husband handles this stuff. Let me get him."

Then put the phone down and walk away for half an hour or so.

The next time, give them the same line, then say: "George? Phone. George??? GEORGE??? OH MY GOD! HE'S DEAD!"

I guarantee this asshole will not call back.

Most telemarketers are poor folks who have been offshored out of decent jobs and have had to take the thankless job of interrupting people during their dinner hour to sell them stuff they don't want. A polite "No, thank you," will do it for 99.9% of them. However, for the assholes who don't take no for an answer and call back repeatedly, I suggest the above.

Or there's the air horn. Or there's a cap pistol. Persistent ones don't deserve civility. Get rid of them any way you can, including involving the phone company and nailing them for harassment.

20. Exactly!
Most telemarketers ARE poor folks who have been offshored out of decent jobs. I ended up doing market research surveys that way.

Do us ALL a favor.

We don't really want to be making these calls and bothering people...we want REAL WORK.

Here is what you do...

Act REAL INTERESTED in whatever is being sold...or surveyed for. find an excuse to put the phone person on hold...and keep them there till they give up and hang up on you.

You give the telemarketer a well-earned five to ten minute break, and you cost the business he works for money in lost productivity and time.

You do not understand the environment most telemarketer/survey people work in...

We are on an automatic dialer. As soon as we finish one call (BEEP) another one comes thru on our line, we don't even get a chance to BREATHE or get a sip of water in between calls! It's a fucking sweat shop! They might as well shove a broom up our asses so that we could sweep the floor as we walk along, that is how hard they work us!

sincerely, don't get mad at the guy or gal on the phone...he or she is a poor struggling bastard put there by Bush's rotten economic policies. take it our on the business that is generating the calls, and give your brother or sister a well-deserved five to ten minute break!

The marketer will thank you.

Of course, for those that are rude, as this one was, a good idea...this works if you have a cordless phone...carry the phone into the bathroom, and FLUSH THE TOILET!!!

First, tell them, "I am not going to do anything financially until Bush gets out of office. This is the economy as a result of bush..." and THEN....FLUSH THE TOILET!!!

18. Beware of identity thiefs calling
We've gotten a couple of strange calls asking us for our SS# as well as emails asking for SS# and pin. One was from Sunbank and noted that if we did not update our info our account would be cancelled, we don't have a Sunbank account!

They are out there trollling, no doubt and thanks to outsourcing, our info is all over the place.

21. There is a lot of that going on.Pass the word loudly to everyone you
know - don't respond to any email that asks for any password. I've gotten them from Ebay, Paypal, banks, even my mortgage company. They have all been fakes. They want the id and password and will take you for a very big ride.

I got one from a bank I don't have an account at. I hit the button and filled in fake info. It thanked me for validating my account.

22. An MCI telemarketer called my mother a "dummy" on the phone once.
This was about 4 years ago. My mother was trying to explain she didn't want MCI and she was happy the way she had her long-distance set up.

And the guy said, "Fine, you dummy" and hung up on my mom.

WTF?
