White House wants gay policy suit TOSSED
And so it continues....

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration on Monday asked a federal court to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the Pentagon's 11-year-old "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

The government said last year's landmark Supreme Court ruling that overturned state laws making gay sex a crime does not undercut the military's policy that allows gays and lesbians to serve as long as they abstain from homosexual activity and don't reveal their sexual orientation.

Courts previously have upheld the policy, approved by Congress and put in place by the Clinton administration.

3. Huh?
Not sure I understand your post . . .

Should just women keep their sexuality quiet? Or are you calling gay men "ladies" ??

Is it OK if heterosexual men continue to talk about their sexuality or do you think they should start being quiet about it?

Your post sounds pretty offensive, unless I'm misunderstanding something.

9. since you seem the only sane answer to my post
the reference to ladies is actually a generic term for all service people used by senior non coms, and people talk about their sexuality, ok, but the problem is with pda's and full blown affairs, nothing blows morale apart more than people in units shacking up with each other.

13. PDAs are a problem?
How about the mud wrestling that's in another thread?

How about the sexual abuse at Abu Ghriab?

How about soldiers who are already in heterosexual marriages with other soldiers?

Why are only gay relationships a problem?

14. jeez, if you notice i said all forms of pda's and affairs
are bad for unit morale, imagine your in a unit were the sargeant is dating one of his platoon, and he orders her to hang back during an assault, you think the rest of the pongos are gonna be happy, no way jose.

You're back peddling now.

16. me, i was talking within units, whether a platoon
company, battalion, brigade, division, dosent matter, if you dont think all forms of sexual contact in the field degrade morale then your nuts.

24. No you weren't, you said:
"personally i dont want anyone showing their sexuality whilst in uniform, keep it for the bedroom ladies"

What does 'showing your sexuality' mean? A certain way of talking? Gestures? Remember, Focus on the Family employs a 'homosexuality detection expert'. What if you happened to have effeminate gestures but were not gay? Where do you draw the line?

As long as soldiers are obeying orders and following the rules, there shouldn't be any questioning of loyalty or fitness.

17. The problem isn't gays being booted for shacking up within units!
They're cut for BEING gay. Sometimes they're rooted out by means of intrusive questions and privileged medical records.

And good luck with the puritanical attitude about heterosexual "affairs" within units.

4. Telling someone about your spouse is not "showing sexuality"
So, i guess, under your scenario, you don't want people having pictures of their wives or husbands on their desks?

You don't want anyone to wear a wedding ring, either, correct? That's "showing sexuality", you know.

You don't want anyone to be able to mention their boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife while serving in the armed forces. Their entire off base life must remain a secret lock box, eh?

Because, you see, that's what the current law does to gays and lesbians in the military. They can't even talk about their partners or their homelife. They have to lie if asked point blank about their family.

It's not about sex or "showing sexuality". It's about leading your life without lying about your family and your spouse.

Capiche?

The "ladies" smear has its roots in sexism and homophobia regardless of what you think it means.

5. What we need is a constitutional amendment making gays non-citizens.
And just be done with it, already. Then I can move to Canada.

God I hate those right-wing fuckers.
