Why does the Bush Admin & Cult Following remind me of Amway so much.
At least with Amway you know those poor obsessed overzealous fools think they're gonna get rich.

I keep encountering these seriously unstable people who are truly, disturbingly fixated on George Bush and idolize & worship the guy. It's creepy.

A few years ago a "friend" I hadn't seen in a while took me "out for a drink" which turned out to be a business presentation for this crazy insurance pyramid scheme. These people were standing up on chairs, chanting, yelling... the scene at the State of the Union the other night reminded me of the same thing.

What the hell is happening here?

1. It's all a big ol' Ponzi scheme anyhow.
Actually, Republican gatherings these days tend to resemble a really disturbing combination of an Amway meeting and a Hitler Youth rally.

DeVos looking at run for Michigan governor

(World News): GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Feb. 7 : Richard DeVos, the former president of direct sales powerhouse Alticor, is considering a Michigan gubernatorial bid.

DeVos told the Michigan Republican Party convention he was looking at the possibility of running "as an opportunity to serve the state I love," the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press reported Monday.

"I'll take the time to understand the issues that face the state and the political environment within which we're living," DeVos said. "If I'm certain that I'm the individual that can make a meaningful difference, I'll be entering the race."

3. The Amway Founders, the DeVos Family
are very large funders of the religious right and Republican Party.

A couple of years ago, my dentist took me to an Amway meeting, trying to get me hooked on this cult. When I first started going to him, he had a packed waiting room. After about a year, it dwindled to nothing. He must have been trying to really hustle all of his patients. I quit seeing him shotly there after.

6. Because it IS modelled on Amway
If you can find it, there's an article from last spring in the New York Times Magazine which spells it out in excruciating detail. It is everything about how they will win - and it came out six months before the election.

7. GOP is a great big pyramid scheme!
Does this sound familar?

The disguises, rationalizations and defenses have a similar ring. Perpetrators claim they are uplifting people, setting them free, creating new opportunity, and teaching them a new and better way to live and prosper.

As in all such abuses of the past, huge amounts of money are spread to peddle influence, stave off regulation, and maintain the false portrayal of legitimacy. Critics are vilified and threatened with lawsuits as "anti-business" and "losers."

The element of the pyramid scheme that has the most in common with past abuses is its appeal to economic justification. Deceptive practices which take money from millions of unwitting people and enrich a small group of promoters and perpetrators are defended as "legitimate business," helping to build the economy, employ people, and provide economic opportunity.

9. Amway/Bush Cult are intertwined like a slimy ball of worms
"Amway's billionaire founders, Rich DeVos and Jay VanAndel, have been the largest soft money contributors to the GOP on and off for the past 20 years. Together, DeVos and VanAndel gave $4,000,000 to a 527, just 45 days prior to the last election."

snip

"By going to the site, you can hear Newt Gingrich promoting Amway at a large event, or you can listen to audio clips of then Texas Governor George W Bush. There is even a clip sent by high-level kingpin distributors from a private meeting within the White House."

snip

"Scheibeler tells how some members of the GOP have been paid as much as $100,000 for a single promotional appearance at an Amway seminar. The list of high-paid Republican speakers who have appeared at rallies over the years, reads like a list of who's who in the GOP. It includes former Presidents George Bush, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford and former Vice Presidents Bob Dole and Dan Quayle, along with other GOP heavyweights like Gingrich, Oliver North, Senator Rick Santorum and even the latest SE Regional Chairman for the Bush-Cheney '04 campaign, Ralph Reed."

the snippiest:

"Scheibeler reveals just how much Republican law makers have given back to Amway in return for the large speaking fees and contributions, which includes tax breaks and a blanket of immunity from investigations into the company's illegal business practices. In hindsight, it is more than evident that the money bought a whole lot of regulatory protection for Amway."
