...for the vaccine? I believe that the most accepted theory on the origin of AIDS is that the virus jumped species, from chimps to man.

The problem with using chimpanzees for testing purposes is a double edged sword; while our genetic similarity (near identical, 99.4% genetically identical IIRC) is great for genetic testing, it also means that the BAD stuff- like AIDS- can be transmitted very easily by common mutation...

They can make a synthetic vax but choose not to. I sure wish they'd go that route instead or at least use human tissue. But, I'm just a consumer, what do I know?
