Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 01:35 AM by theophilus

<snip>

HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - A man was fined $600 and put on probation for throwing an Egg McMuffin at a McDonald's restaurant manager after he said he didn't get what he ordered.

<snip>

We can start wars for fun and profit and deny benefits to the poor and unfortunate but don't you dare throw a sandwich! Is there any hope????

Edited to add a snippet.

2. Look, I've been to Holland, Michigan,
and they're damn picky about the fastness of their fast food. They want to clog an artery and they want it NOW.

4. My first thought was that maybe the customer was a big guy
and the manager was a woman. Well, don't know how big he was, but the manager was a woman, and was probably a whole lot younger and smaller than him, and so was frightened by the assault.

Then I saw that he threw the sandwich through the friggin window! He couldn't reach her if he tried! And how much velocity could he get on the sandwich, throwing up, past the steering wheel, through the car window and into the service window? Kinda awkward?

For this, a $600 fine?

Did MickyD's really push this? They have to know they've lost a customer for life.

6. They can't loose enough customers. I've been boycotting them for
years.

10. Violent?
Doesn't that involve some form of weapon?
Doesn't that result in some tangible HARM?

7. I agree with you about the wars part, but I don't see the relationship
to the story. Two wrongs don't make a right. Battering another person because you can't control your temper is inexcusable behavior, regardless of the whitehouse policies.

Besides, it may have just been an Egg McMuffin he threw but it's impossible to draw a clear line at what is ok and not ok to throw at strangers who you are mad at.

And $600.00 seems like a reasonable consequence to the action he took. That guy's got some serious anger management/control issues, obviously.

8. Are you kidding me?!?!?!

How accomodating was the manager when she was told his order was wrong?

Did she deny the mistake?

Was she snippy, like soooo many other store managers?

It's about time someone let these people know that the customer is the ONLY reason they have a job.

I'm sick and tired of store managers(fast food, retail, etc) that excude arrogance. The old adage of "The customer is always right." no longer exists. They act like we OWE them our business.

I am happy this guy threw the McMuffin at the manager.
If it were a brick, it'd be different, but cmon, it was a freaking egg sandwich. How much harm could it have done?

14. You seem to get off on someone throwing things at a woman....
If the manager was a woman, then this guy needed to get his ass kicked in addition to the $600.00 fine.

It takes a real man to throw things at girls....I wonder if she felt as small as he (and you) wanted her to feel.

Oh to have been in line with this punk.

15. He was at the drive-up service window.
She would have been looking down on him. She's management, in control. She has the dominant position.

You don't go around insulting customers because you feel small, you do it from a position of dominance. He, sitting down, looking up at the unresponsive manager, was in the inferior position.

And to be in line with him, you'd have to have been in his back seat.

13. I'm just saying that we seem to be losing all perspective.
There have been several instances of tasering children and old people. There have been incidents of cuffing and "holding" children for, what I feel, were insignificant reasons.

While our great leader and his cabal hoot for "rule of law" it seems to only be law applying to the lower and middle class. McDonalds continues to hand out their dangerous swill and the industry is seeking immunity from all accountability. "It's only business", they whine.

As a human I lose my temper sometimes. People all do. People used to get into fistfights and settle differences. I'm not saying that it is right or desirable but I think the punishment should fit the crime. I am just afraid that us po' folk are going to be sent to the gulag for cussing out somebody while the Corporatists continue to rape the world without pause.

I'm just saying......

11. He deserved to be fined!
What if the customer threw a fist instead of the sandwich. All these type A personalities and their fits of rage deserve to be put in Bellvue for about a month, and then given a choice between anger management or Jail &/or a steep fine. A lot of kids go to MacDonalds, they do not need to see adults acting like this.

16. Had to laugh at the story. . .
The guy's lawyer said he didn't throw the sandwich, "just returned it rather quickly."
