Is the rest of the USA finally waking up?
I swore I'd stop watching TV for a long time, but tonight, I felt a little sick, and thought I'd take a break and watch some TV news. I was switching around between NBC and ABC and it felt like reading articles on DU. Every lead story on both channels was critical in some way of the Bush Administration: American Troops spread to thin in Iraq, the $87 Billion and where the hell it's gonna come from, Jobless Recovery, Bush fundraising for his reelection campaign instead of raising money for the War Effort, the Flight Suit hoax on the aircraft carrier, etc.

Could we be watching the beginning of the end of the Bush Family Evil Empire?

2. I've noticed it too
But, I don't get to comfy, because I know The Bush Junta won't let it last long.

Besides, have you forgotten about Jeb?

3. The media knows the smell of blood.
They may have made a very calculated decision that Bush is toast but I doubt it. I think they are throwing a bone to the rest of us. One day's negative coverage and they have done their duty. I don't trust these guys.

4. I'm with you
and additionally, Stumphead and friends have a long way to go before the next election, lots of friends in the public (macho tough guys, pro-life, wealthy and greedy, the gun crowd, etc.), the media on their side, dirty tricks such as rigging it so Dems can't vote, and so on. However, the tide is gradually turning and we need to keep the heat on. Have to keep the Dems on target with criticism and not let Stump get another issue to take center stage.

6. I disagree...if they wanted to hang *..there are plenty of facts they can
share...evidence that an investigative journalist would love.

* What happened to the 28 pages?
* what happened to the CIA outing?
* What happened to the chaney's energy task force and maps of Iraq?

there is more than enough shit...and they are in it up to thier eyebrows...they love selling the drama....lord knows..they certainly help to dumb down america

8. I've noticed a difference also but it's important
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 06:23 PM by Radicalliberal
for even non-tv viewers to keep this in mind:

If asked by a polling service whether or not you are watching the evening news, you would be helping the "cause"
by stating something like "Yes, lately I've taken an interest in the news at night".
The reason is (obviously) if the sharks get the inkling that more and more people are watching Bush and Company get trashed
it can lead to a self-perpetuating continuation of more balanced reporting. (Yo, Boss!, the polls are showing an increase in watchers since we've been reporting the bad side of Bush)

9. You said that one of the programs
commented that Bush was raising money for his reelection instead of for the war effort.

I think that's something that we DUers should not forget.

10. NBC calls the link between Iraq and al Quida an "urban legend"!!
and the reason it got started and has been allowed to continue is Bush has been misleading the country in his effort to support his war in Iraq!!!!

I was SHOCKED!

12. A legend which they forking perpetuated in the run up to invasion
I don't know about you, but I'm finding it hard to keep from having a major and sudden lunch evacuation every time I hear these talking heads act all shocked and awed at how screwed up this IraqNam adventure is.

All theinformation was there beforehand, and yet it was all go go go go, LordGodBush saving U.S. from the brown hordes, must invade must get WMD, blah blah blah blah.

Yeah, I'm glad they finally MENTION the fricking problem, but its like warning a blind man who's walking off a cliff AFTER he steps over the edge.

11. I Think It's Encouraging
Thev've ignored all the "little" BS that Dimbo and company has pulled so far, but getting us into a war that no one wanted that carries an 87 Billion price tag was the last straw for a lot of ChrubCo believers.

They're looking at the decifit now and starting to question a lot of things now.

13. A mix of causes..including fear of being first to cross each line
Signs of hope for sure, though we wish for more.

We can't underestimate the fear these journalists have of throwing away a career. The Bush-cheney group are as vicious as they come in punishing those who don't completely toe the line -- not to mention Delay and company. I think of the infamous Dan Rather comment to Greg Palast (he knows the right questions to ask, but would get a tire around his neck if he started asking them), as one among many examples.. Also of the 15 or 20 journalists who wrote essays in the book "Into the Buzzsaw" about the career-limiting effects of writing the truth.

And some decent politicians (that speck barely visible with the naked eye) are hoping that the people will lead on some of the more difficult causes. They need a dependable groundswell of popular support on the subjects where they must run up against the most powerful lobbies: military spending, drug policy, etc..

14. Jeez, no kidding?
That's good news! I don't watch TV so I wouldn't know.

I get my news on the Internet (also here!), and I can tell there are lots & lots of really critical articles. They've been on the Internet for a long time, but now it seems they're seeping into the mainstream news.

I'd say there's got to be a lot of turmoil right now at the White House. Lots of pounding on the tables, index fingers in the air, each pointing at the other. Lots of accusations, and "Damn it, why did you wait so long?"

Heh heh, dontcha just love it?
