I believe each and every person has in their own power, the ability to redeem themselves. Some are on the road to doing that, some are going the other way with it and some are going with ignorant-arrogant character trait.

As a pink person I understand that a good portion of us types are being the catalyst in destroying the only world that our combined humanity or kind has to live on. This is where I see the stupid white men moniker coming from. Color and race or what ever you use to divide people from themselves or purpose for gain on another's is mostly what my point was.

It's not just that but everything, including money, nation state, religion etc. How can you accept acclaim if you see criticism also

It amazes me that in discussing philosophy, that Asian philosophers are completely omitted. But then, that's pretty on par. Asians are very much underrepresented in society.

Unlike AA who are often victims of blatant bigotry, Asians are basically just ignored.

It's shocking that you don't realize that Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, and Hinduism are all philosophical schools of thought. i.e. self, non self, duality, reality, consciousness, awareness, metaphysics, etc....

Greece may be the epicenter for philosophy in western civ, but it isn't for eastern civ. BTW, Confucius predates Socrates by 82 yrs.

And just because you have not learned about eastern civ does not mean that it does not exist.

My old friend the former head of the philosophy department is the source of my comments.

Every now and then on some committee some engineer or sports management or finance prof would make come comment like "of course we need more philosophy -- so our students can be more spiritual and aware of 'self, non self, duality, reality, consciousness, awareness, ... '" and the head of the philos department would say, "you are confusing philosophy with eastern philosophy."

Well, I would concede that western philosophy has gone too far in the analytical direction and has something to learn from such eastern thinkers as Rumi and Ghandi; but we are using the word "philosophy" in somewhat different ways. To me, three of your four are religion (or mysticism) as distinct from philosophy. I will admit Confucius as a social philosopher and as such the equal of Plato, Xenophon, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Bentham, Godwin, and JS Mill.

But even if I buy all four, you are putting up four against dozens.

And please don't be demeaning. I am not ignorant of Asian contributions to thought, though that's not my speciality, but one can be critical rather than ignorant.

In truth the most amazing physical act I have ever seen was when I was in Japan and caught a bit of the Sumo National Championship. There was this one Sumo, smaller than the others but still huge, who had a particular trick. When the other Sumo would charge he would slap him on the shoulders flip up and over him, do a 180 in mid air, and come down behind the charging sumo and grab him. Instant death. Until he faced a walking mountain he couldn't get over. Bounced of the guy like a leaf hitting an elephant. Was kinda sad.
