Godaddy ad pulled during super bowl - fox censorship

The NFL persuaded FOX to pull our ad.

We immediately contacted Fox to find out what happened. Here's what we were told: After our first ad was aired, the NFL became upset and they, together with Fox, decided to pull the ad from running a second time. Because we purchased two spots, we were also entitled to a "Brought to you by GoDaddy.com" 5 second marquis spot. They also chose to pull the marquis spot.

I thought the first one was funny and poked fun at the overreacting FCC.

and you'd think they would have vetted the commercials before airtime (both they and the nfl) - especially since it wasn't a surprise and had been "leaked" on cable news days before the broadcast.

all that said, i would like to hear from those crying "censorship" on how they reach that semantical conclusion.

like crying "wolf", it only serves to diminish real censorship claims and seems a little hysterical in this case (in my opinion).

I didn't see it, but my husband said that Tony Danza was talking this morning about a thing that Tony did outside just before his show on Friday (??) with Kathy Lee Gifford. I guess KLG grabbed Tony's shirt and ripped it.....ala Janet Jackson style......and bared Tony's *gasp* bare chest. My husband said that this morning, Tony said that he got fined for it. WTF?!?!

A woman barely clad, speaking in a Marilyn Monroe voice (addressing CONGRESS), with a bunch of ugly old men salivating... Utterly tasteless and sexist.

That said... it did poke fun at the FCC, and it's pretty damn ironic that FOX broke their contract with them. My suspicion is that they received a whole lot of prissy phone calls right after it aired. Personally, I just muted the stupid TV during it.

and neither did the others who were watching the game with me. In fact, it led to a discussion regarding,do makers of this kind of sexist drivel consider that FAMILIES are watching this--not just adolescent (minded) guys? And if so, how do they think female viewers respond to this, and do they consider what kind of an effect this has on boys and girls? We all thought it sucked--this included the men, and we are not prudes or theo-cons, we are all well-educated liberals>moderates who agree that the airwaves are WAY oversaturated with overtly sexual--and sexist--imagery.

The fact that they were making fun of the FCC. As a female, I *did* think it was funny. I'm a well educated, liberal. Was that commercial any worse than the commercials about erectile dysfunction? Or needing a "warming lubricant"?

I'm tired of being told what I can see and what I can't see on TV. I pay my satellite bill, I expect to be able to make that decision all on my own.

and I know it is a topic that elicits STRONG responses. I expressed one side, and I speak for millions, and you do too. Turning the channel does no good after the fact.

I didn't mean to come off sounding like my opinion was the only one that mattered. I do understand totally where you're coming from in that it's a small part of a larger program where changing the channel isn't an option.

My whole problem is probably a whole different topic on the censorship issue. ie: censoring entire shows. I just combined my thoughts in one issue. Sorry about that. :)

22. The only saving grace of the erectile dysfunction ads

from my standpoint is that FINALLY the guys get a little taste of what we have had to put up with for the last 30+ years--with 1st, tampon and douche ads, then on and on and on...I can hardly keep from snickering when those come on- they are so foul, but it is SUCH payback time!!

Not just my husband, but sheesh, my poor 70 year old Dad had to watch that crap with his daughters in the room (and vice versa!)... and I wonder what my 10-year old nephew thought of it... I thought it was fun for awhile to have the "payback" of these male-exploiting ads, but it's already gotten very old. of woman. i personally did not get the whole ad, just the end where she was acting all stupid and her top kept falling off. just stupid. so when you said it was about making fun of fcc i paused. but no...........

there were miller commercials going after coors. coors had the boob twin commercial. the first one i loved the song and would always raise head to see commercial, forgetting. they did all they could to angle camera up the dress or down the bra top. by the third commercial they had one of the coor twins crawling on the ground, humping mother earth, in winter, snow around, about naked, licking lips to the camera. started making her lips to give blow job as she crawls to the camera. they cut off from her to a room of young males, drinking, in group, yelling and screaming and rootin, for her, to what.................crawl thru the camera and give each a blow job? about the most offensive ad i have seen yet. this owner ran for senator in colorado on family values.

miller came out with an ad using near naked women fightin in water to laugh at coors audacity.

I am currently in a debate about why FOX is viewed as "conservative"
One of my arguments was that they censored ads which go against the company's political views

38. The goDaddy.com ad was a breath of fresh air

in light of the conservative trend now taking place throughout television. Such as Fox blurring out a cartoon "bottom" on an episode of Family Guy that originally showed the "bottom" when it aired nearly 5 years ago. This ad was nothing compared to what a lot of other countries air on television. We are by far one of the most conservative countries in the world.
