1. Never speak ill of a Democrat IN PUBLIC.
If it's necessary, take them out behind the woodshed quietly, and let them know what's what.

8. It's only logical.
Why let your opponents know exactly where your weaknesses are?

Think about it: how much joy do we get out of seeing our opponents eat their own? How sweet is the schadenfreude? (I love that word).

Why should we give them the satisfaction? Why should we show them the roadmap to what we are thinking?

There are a bazillion poker players in this country now; surely some of them are Dems. We need to start learn to wearing our game faces.

4. There's always "DINO"?
If you don't like "pint tutu", talk to Bartcop. It's his baby.

10. As any regular reader of Bartcop knows...
The congressional "pink tutu" brigade are the democrats who bow and scrape for Bush at every opportunity, cave on every right-wing judicial nomination, and quiver when they hear Karl Rove coming.

Basically, DINOs.

16. Oh, then they don't exist.
Then we don't need to purge them, I guess.

7. How about if we just speak the truth at all times?
The Dems need to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.

9. Define the "truth."
Seriously. Do you mean "the whole truth?"

How about the following scenario: Republican asks what I think of Democrat X. I tell the Republican all the good things I think about Democrat X.

Democrat asks me what I think about Democrat X. I may mention the good things, but now is my opportunity to vent and discuss where Democrat X has room to improve.

Both are the truth.

11. But here we are on a DEMOCRAT board...
But there are all kinds of RW lurkers, and thugs like Limbaugh troll us for stories he can distort on his show.

I do realize the downside to attacking other dems, but dammit, I'm sick of the spinelessness we've seen for the last 7 years or so!

I guess my hope is that we can either purge or spank into shape these DINOs over the next year or so (hopefully that will be easier with Dean as head of the DNC) and be unified a year from now, and the DLC folks who have sunk our party up to now will have to STFU.

12. speaking of Limbaugh
he LOVES that very same pink tutu picture you posted, and put it on his own website.

It must be the anti-gay and anti-woman mentality. Did you know, Limbaugh's nickname for Daschle was "Puff?"

13. Yeah, but this is still "in public" to me.
I dunno what can be done about it though; how do you create a cyber-smoky back room? But to be perfectly honest I don't think the DLC types care much about what gets posted on boards like these anyway. The more internet-savvy types, yes.

And I, for one, believe as a general principle that moderate Dems have a place in our party. Everyone doesn't have to be all fire-breathing like Dean.

Not "democrat party".

But good point. That bugs me too. Too late to edit, though.

15. Both Dean and Kerry people should agree with #1.
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 01:30 PM by LoZoccolo
The Kerry/others people in the primaries risked hamstringing Dean should he have become the nominee, and the Dean people did the same to Kerry with the "flip-flop" charge. Now that we all know what it's like to be fucked over by people in your own party, we should agree not to do it.

18. Never speak ill, with caveats
(a) no Democrat is above criticism; the problem is one of calibrating one's criticism; (b) If a Democrat consistently speaks ill of the Party or its base or its traditional constituencies, purge.

22. Actually you're right. "Purge" was too strong of a word.
I didn't mean that I wanted to kick'em all out. Just kick their ass a bit and get them flying right. I'm well aware that we need every democrat we can get, even the Daschle types. But we DON'T need Daschle types as Senate Minority Leader...

24. Other: I like my world with some shades of grey.
I feel there are some definite needs to speak out against politicians, even those on our side of the aisle, from time to time. It's what makes this country a Democracy, -that whole 'voice of the people' thing. And like many I have to wonder how much of a genuine opportunity the polls are offering the American public in terms of realistically rendering that voice.

But in general I see the need for a strong solidarity with Democrats and I don't think there's a great deal of that going on.

26. FUCK BARTCOP AND FUCK THAT PICTURE!
Jesus Fucking Christ...it's as though there isn't enough propaganda tossed at us, we have to fucking counter fucking propaganda from our own fucking side. WAKE THE FUCK UP people...you don't like a politician, then GROOM a replacement and run them..but promoting pics such as this only serves to get it from the right, the left and everyone in between.

Only a FUCKING ASSHAT would commit mutiny and pretend it's noble.

28. What NSMA Said!
It's one thing to discuss party direction and even express disappointment at some of the capitulation. But, finding ways to insult the folks on our side is cutting off a nose . . .

Well said, Teena.
