Where did Me-publicanism come from?
when did it become socially acceptable to say "screw the poor i've got mine and that's allt hat matters"?

It certainly wasn't soemthing that would have been uttered by the generation that lived through the Depression.

is this post-60's hippie generation fall-out?

1. It came out of the "Me Generation"...
If you'll flip back a few pages to the '80s you can
read all about it.

;)

3. Was it really the 80s tho?
or can we look to the disco 70s as well?

and then really if we're lookign to the 70s might as well look to the 60s.

perhaps the fall of the Church? once we no longer had to go to church every sunday, we didn't have to worry about being humble and god-fearing anymore?

2. Dunno....
Maybe it started with Raygun, and got really bad during the Clinton years with the help of El Drugbo....

4. It is the Reptilian Primordial Ooze we crawled out of
It has been with us since the beginning of time.

ALL governments were "Conservative" until the American and French Revolutions.

The Romans and Nazis shared it at their core, and on the opposite side of political spectrum the Soviets and the Chinese were/are motivated by similar 'ideals' (though, like the Busheviks, they say the opposite of what they believe and what their society stands for).

This is nothing new.

"Screw the poor I've got mine and that's all that matters", sadly is the primary human creed even today, just as far more humans live under BushPutinism or other forms of Tyranny, than live in the Free World.

What is shocking and stunning has been the rapidity which clever, marketing, advertising, and propaganda methodologies have overwhelmed and destroyed the Old USA, which no longer even really exists except as the Illusion of the BushPutinists, the Imperial Family of Amerika. They use the words "freedom" and liberty" in the exact same way Stalin, Hitler, or ANY Tyrannical Leader of a Third World Country does.

It became socially acceptable to 'say' "Screw the poor I've got mine and that's all that matters," when the Goebbels v2.0 Propaganda Machine & Lie Laundry figured out a way to repackage cruelty under another guilt-free name.

NEW and IMPROVED TOTALITARIAN BOOTLICKING. Now with TWICE the Orwellian Lies!

6. But to be honest - I can't even see
Ronald reagan or nancy for that matter, coming out of their face like that.

(while i do hear it every day on Washington Journal, and am still shocked and appalled everytime).

8. yes, you were obviously too young
the LEADERS aren't going to say it my little one, while the minions can and do

Having been born halfway through this century, comparing the 80's to the other decades of my life, there's no question in the change.

my belief is that 100 years from now the Reagan legacy will really be all about his enormous contribution to the selfishness of the later decades

The 80's were all ABOUT greed. As long as I get mine, screw you is exactly what Reagan was all about.

10. it was both
reagan was clearly his own man early on. As he grew more feeble, he obviously couldn't be the front man so the minions were always there.

No matter, Reagan was not like Bush who is a man created for the office by the neocons. Reagan created himself.
