Which Liberal Talk Show Host Helps Dem's The Most?
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 03:27 PM by Quixote1818
I would have to say Ed Schultz because people from rural areas and Nascar Dad's will relate to him. He defies all the stereo types of liberal democrats and he comes across as a manly teddy bear. He is just what we need to bring over moderate republicans who hunt, fish and love sports.

While I like many of the other hosts I don't know if they bring in new people to the party in the way Ed Schultz does. However Ed may turn off some fringe Dem's or those against hunting.

25. He Is In Some Markets - Like Mine and Frankly
I can't relate to him, but I can see why men might. His voice sounds too close to that of pigboy and I just don't get into to his righties/lefties thing.

I wish in Denver, Clear Channel would air the true AAR line-up, but Clear Channel has a contract w/ Shultz and I'm sure Denver isn't the only city he's on where CC is the AAR outlet. He is on when Randi Rhodes is truly on. Majority Report is not on, nor is Mike Malloy.

Last week the Arbitron ratings came out here and sadly, AAR did not fair too well. They did better than what the station used to be - but I was hoping for a big showing. Most people I ask are not fans of Shultz, nor that weirdo on at night Phil Hendrie.

5. They all do.
Ed Schulz is great for the population you define, but then, Randi Rhodes is great for those of us who are 100% Democratic and need the red meat. It isn't just a matter of bringing in new people, it's also a matter of bonding with each other.

7. Gotta go with Randi Rhodes...
Randi it thorough. She provides her listeners more documentation for her arguments then just about everyone. What's more, she's entertaining. I always get a few laughs throughout the course of listening to her show.

I like Thom Hartmann personally, but I realize he might be a bit boring for many people, but I thinks he's about the smartest guy on the radio.

8. I think both Ed and Randi have their strong points
We just got "Progressive Talk" here in L.A., which features AAR and Jones programming (both Ed and Randi). I'd never heard Ed before and was disinclined toward him because of Randi's negative encounters with him ... but I've got to admit I've enjoyed his show during the past week. He gets the message across but his delivery is more "crossover" and not nearly as abrasive as Randi can get. I personally LOVE Randi, but I can see how she can rub some more moderate Dems the wrong way ... yet she's the perfect "red meat" for the base. They both help us, in different ways but equally well.

but I see why he's important to our side. Love Randi and Stephanie Miller and Al Franken. Not too crazy about those two Mark's in the early a.m. They act like jerks sometimes.

11. Sam Greenfield on WWRL in New York City.
Sam is articulate and funny. He invites contrary viewpoints on his program and directly addresses contradictions, hypocrisy, abuse, logical fallacies, and other devices used to avoid having to defend a losing argument. And he's very well read on many issues. I think he's one of the best out there.

P.S. You can stream his show on http://www.wwrl1600.com Monday to Friday 3-6.

12. There Needs To Be Local Voices
For Progressive Talk radio to really take root and make big points against the hate talkers, it needs to develop local shows on as many affiliates as possible.

WSAI is making the right step by bringing in Jerry Springer, but there needs to be a lot more voices coming forward and the smaller and more local the better. They're the bridge we need to reach into the red and purple areas.

23. Like Lynn Cullen on WPTT in Pittsburgh
http://www.1360wptt.com/cullen/

She's an excellent local host with a liberal point of view. You're right, local host are very important but we need both. Local and national just like the right-wing fascists have. If you're going to fight them successfully we need to do it on all fronts.

24. I Like Lynn As Well...
I saw her last fall on C-SPAN and have heard her speak on several occasions.

She's a great example of the type of people we need to be hearing more of. They especially need our support since many are lone wolves in their markets and on the smaller/weaker signals.

Fortunately there are more Progressive talk stations coming on the air. Now it's up to us to support them and let the station's owners (mostly Cheap Channel) and their management they need to include local programming (cause it'll make 'em money).

Call 'em what you will...but dittoheads are very good radio customers. They listen every day in regular numbers, "call the 800" numbers on the ads that show response to the show and station, show up at the local appearances and remotes and make their stations lots of money. While values and principals are important, so is being able to communicate and finding the most efficient ways to do so.

Cheers.

27. Thom Hartman is doing Lynn Cullen's spot on WPTT today!
I thought I'd listen to Lynn Cullen a little today since I haven't heard her in such a long time so I started streaming WPTT. I had to listen to a few minutes of that numbnut Neil Boortz first. But then instead of Lynn Cullen -- the Thom Hartman show started streaming! Lynn must be on vacation. But I think it's great that Pittsburgh gets to listen to Thom Hartman today - he might be my favorite of all of the liberal talkers - though I love them all :)

someone who understands, promotes lives & dies with each breath for true liberal ideology, than it's Mike Malloy, hands down! --- Bernie Ward and Ray Taliaferro, are a toss up to a very close second (San Francisco, KGO radio).

It's getting harder and harder these days to put Democrat and liberal in the same sentence.

If it's in-between Democrat and liberal idealism, then, Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, Peter Werbe, Mike Webb and Janeane & Sam, all do it very well.

Sugar-coating for the spineless Democrats...I'll leave that one up to all of you.

18. Ed Schultz for sure....
I have recently begun listening to his show and really love the no-BS type of talk he has. He gives everyone (including RWers) a chance to talk. He can appeal to rural voters because he sees the abortion & hunting as 2 minor issues. He is all for hunting but is against assault weapons which is where the majority of Americans are at.

I think he has some real solid potential to do some stuff for the Democratic party.

26. RANDI RHODES!!!!
They don't call her THE GODDESS for nothing! To get syndicated from West Palm Freakin Beach ALONE shows she's GOT IT! And I am SICK of Crap Channel doing this bullshit hatched job of airing Ed Schiltz instead of Randi. Just goes to show that what she has to say is DANGEROUS to their hip-pocket interests meanwhile Ed is yaking about this weeks goddamn sports picks.

Tell a fiend to listen to Randi Rhodes (and all of Air America!),
