Coincidence: Bush's miserable budget and GD full of abortion threads?
Did it ever occur to anyone that we are being continually played here?

Bush just proposed a budget that rips at the heart of every social program that we believe in and we're going to sit here and engage in our circular arguments about abortion that never resolve anything.

Where is our analysis of the budget? Who are we contacting? What are our strategies? What pols can we count on? Who can we sway? THAT is what the hottest topics on GD should be.

Focus, people, focus!

1. Senators don't even read the budget
I love politics; I even love legislation. But budget debates are where dreams go to die. I have no idea how to even construct an argument about a $2.7 trillion dollar thing. I think the Iraq war costs, social security costs, and tax cut costs should be in it. Aside from that, I'm as lost as the next fellow.

2. Lots of flamebait this week!
Abortion

Howard Dean

How the party should be changed

Illegal immigrants

Bill & Hillary against Dean

***

I admit that I responded to the Embryo DNA post, but I'm with you!

As long as posters keep us on the defense, we lose...

And the country goes to hell in a handbasket.

3. Yeah and when you state that there are people paid to post crap
They are easy to spot...yet, yet, yet the conversations roll on and on. They sure aren't talking to each other all the time.

11. It is my belief
That some of the posters are paid operatives and post distractive "crap" along with the Freeplings that are easier to pick out. I said it you didn't.

4. I was wondering about that, myself
I thought some right wing radio screecher had decided to fulminate about all those horrid women who had sex and ENJOYED IT getting abortions.

6. very good point n/t
I think that maybe flamebait should go in the 'reproductive rights' discussion forum. If you really want to *discuss* and not disrupt the flow of general discussion, that is where you would go to have an intelligent debate.

9. You are right, there is nothing like an abortion discussion to distract
people. It's an important issue, but it is almost taking over GD.

13. Of course
Because those are the wedge issues that even divide democrats. We can't of us teaming up together to battle the lying, thieving neocons running our country into the ground.

17. once again, we fall for the Republicans tricks.
Abortion is a distraction issue. Everyone argue about that, meanwhile the National Debt skyrockets and more defense contractors get rich.

18. Got that right...distraction, distraction, distraction
The Far-Wrong is keenly aware of the everyday progressive's tendency to become distracted by bright shiny emergencies.

19. Heh. Good point.
Personally... I haven't said anything about the budget cuts because it just feels like slamming my fingers in the door over and over again. We saw it coming. We knew it was coming. It sucks and it's idiotic and Bush is an asshole. So what else is new?

But you're right. I think we're being played more than we know around here.

20. Thank you for this subject
following the master-Rove's plan, when you want to deflect attention from something political, like a budget, introduce wedge issues. We are being wedged here on DU, but people just keep responding to the flame bait. Wedge issues should be posted in their particular forum, not here on GD.

21. It does seem to fit the pattern
I tried to combine abortion and the budget, but it doesn't seem to be getting much traction.
