"Rove's New Position Will Involve Policy"
"WASHINGTON (AP) - Karl Rove, the senior political strategist who orchestrated President Bush's re-election campaign, has been promoted to deputy chief of staff, a job that will involve him in most White House policy and not just politics.

Rove will retain his title as senior adviser and will continue to oversee strategy to advance the president's agenda. In addition, he will continue to oversee the offices of intergovernmental affairs, political affairs and strategic initiatives.

But he will add to his portfolio the oversight of all White House policy development and coordination of the Domestic Policy Council, the National Economic Council, the National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

The promotion has rankled a few Democrats."

As John deIlulio said, "It's all politics. There is no policy with the Mayberry Machiavelli's."

2. It will also expose him to congressional scrutiny and...
...criminal prosecution if he does anything that violates the law. As adviser to the president he has had immunity. Rove's MO is such that he will not be able to change behaviors so easily and may just incriminate himself.

6. more policy "payoffs" to the RW is the clear signal -- Rove has ALWAYS
been involved in policy, so that part is not new ... but I still wonder WTF will it REALLY mean???

8. Fundie Codeword Red Meat...
The fundies are Rove's flock...this is just a message to the pulpit's they're got a voice "in the house". Politically, it's a non-move...just something to placate the right wing and distract them while the regime attempts to ram through SSI destruction, Tax Scam '05 and a massive supplemental that will blow the defecit beyond NASA tracking ability.

Usually when the regime throws a bone to it's base, it's because they're about to ream them with some policy change or non-action (like abortion or gay marriage) or maybe, just maybe, this regime may actually try something that's total out of character...work in a true bipartisan nature on something. Nah...
