If men got pregnant, there'd be an abortion clinic in every Texaco!
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 06:37 PM by trumad
The NFL season is about to begin and Quarterback Tom Brady walks into Coach Belichiks office on a rainy Thursday afternoon. The coach is in an upbeat mood with the anticipation of another terrific season that will be led by his talented Pro Bowl QB. BUT little does he know that the young Brady has come in to deliver some "inconvenient" news.

HE'S PREGNANT!!!!

Coach Belichik looks at Tom and says, Tom the whole team is depending on you this season... You know what you've got to do!

Brady replies, no problem coach, can I miss the afternoon practice?

To even think that abortion would be illegal if Men got pregnant is roll on the floor laughable. The only reason that it's even an issue today is that men continue to control the female human species.

Nuff said!

Let's read on and see if anyone goes for a double or home run by bashing southern men or even southern Christian men.

frankly, I regard all anti-choice threads (even those started by women) as women bashing threads since it is implied that the pregnant woman is too untrustworthy or incompetent to make her own choice.

Poor men, the ULTIMATE oppressors and mass murderers. I do so pity them for the persecution they've endured. TOO bad they lost the FIGHT for women to have the right to vote.

If men were able to get pregnant, having an abortion would be the SELFLESS thing to do, to keep population under control and leave more resources for other living children. It would become HEROIC!

You'd realize that they are just blowing hot air.

They won't end abortion.

The governments of the world have conceded that the world's population needs to be reduced to 2 or 3 billion people in order to fend off a huge crisis with the age of the end of oil, and you think they actually want to "end" abortion?

They just want to keep the argument going to capitalize of it.

It's a fluke debate.

Show me where the Republicans who control the White House, the Senate, the House, and the Supreme Court have done anything to try and "end" abortion.

And yes, the "partial-birth abortion ban" was a fluke that was written deliberately in a way where it didn't really change anything.

It is all talk, period.

They will not end anything. The governments of the world want to reduce the population down to 2 or 3 billion people to stave off the onlslaught of the oil crisis.

They will not give up a "population control method" like abortion.

Did "ending abortion" make the top 10 list presented by Bill Frist?

40. Who do you think the loudest anti-choice people are?
I'd be willing to bet that it's women, although you mainly see men talking about it because more men are politicians.

Women are normally more aggressive as pro-choice or anti-choice or any opinion that they feel strongly about.

These male politicians, in my opinion, don't really care either way, but they know that there are more women in society than men and they want their votes.

If these "male politicians" didn't have to talk about it to get elected, they wouldn't.

Why in the world would the GOP want to end abortions and end up with more poorer people and minorities that would end up voting against them?

They don't want to end it and with the peak oil issue looming and the world with "too any people" according to governments, abortion is a population control method for them that is too valuable for them to get rid of it, and although they won't say it, it's the truth.

58. First of all, you haven't seen me "deny" jacksquat
I said, "see the peeling banana."

Secondly, of course sexism exists, just like racism, duh.

The fact of the matter is, like I said, if these male politicians didn't have to talk about abortion in order to get elected, they would not.

I add, they don't really care about the issue, they just politicize it.

Do you think Bush cares whether or not you have a freaking child?

Of course he doesn't. He cares about whether he can get a vote or not, and if you are going to have a child and raise it in a household that will lead it to vote against future "GOPers" why in the world would they want all of these people having abortions to have the children?

They don't.

Sure, the "Christians" who were used as a cover for the Diebolds to steal the election by claiming that a lot of Christians turned out, may want abortions ended, but these "I only care about corporations" politicians in the Republican party could care less about the issue.

Behind every good man is a good woman ?

Listen people, just because you only see "male politicians" talking about the issue doesn't mean they are enthusiastic about it.

They are politicizing the issue for votes.

Women care a lot more deeply about this issue than most men do, even if they are not out front discussing it, just like you all are fervently discussing it here. When's the last time i saw you on television talking about it?

I haven't, but I have seen John Kerry talk about it because he has to to satisfy you.

That's the same thing that Bush and the GOP are doing it. Just talking about it because they have to.

They don't care about the issue and if they didn't have to have a position they would gladly let it die.

BEHIND every good man...mmmhhhmmm...

Look, prochoice women do care if their RIGHTS are violated and the fact is, MEN have historically OPPRESSED WOMEN'S RIGHTS. That's probably why we see so many men in the ANTIchoice/ANTI-women's rights movement.

Religious leaders are the ones leading the way. Are there more women or men preachers, priests, and ministers?

RIGHT! MEN! Men hold the power positions in LARGE part in the churches. They have made this issue to opppress women's rights HIGH on their agenda! GO FIGURE! Christianity has a long history of misogynistic ways.

How many NON Christian ANTIchoicers/ANTI-women's rights activists are out there? VERY FEW IF ANY!

Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 11:03 PM by independentchristian
Because they are the ones in the leadership roles, as the President of the United States, Majority Leader in the House and the Senate, head of the Southern Baptists, etc, etc, etc?

Is that why you think there are "more men" because you see men out front because of their positions of power?

Yeah, like everything that you "see" is the way that it looks.

As far as the politicians go, the Dems and the Repubs playfight on these issues, in order to keep the divisions in the country and see which side can get the votes.

It's like 1 and 2 getting 3 and 4 to fight against each other as 1 and 2 stand back and laugh at them and end up with everything that 3 and 4 had.

1 and 2 are the Democrats and the Republicans and 3 and 4 are the people who vote for them.

What can I say? I'm independent minded.

I certainly wouldn't put up with that shit. But on the other hand if men got pregnant we'd be programmed for it the way women are so who knows what the results would be? The roles would simply be reversed I would think.

63. Your imagery is very powerful...
... and it highlights the gender inequity in our society. I applaud and support you for this. I say this from the admittedly limited understanding of a male, but one who is pro-choice.

I'm assuming that you are not trivialising abortion (for whichever gender carries the fetus) as being something that any gender would shrug off as a sporting-event inconvenience that could be taken care of and dismissed in an afternoon.

Safe.
Rare.
Legal.

64. Bravo
Couldn't have said it better myself. I agree wholeheartedly. Not only would abortion be legal, birth control would be free to anyone and everyone and sex ed. would never be an "issue" in public schools.

If men got pregnant, abortion would be a religious sacrament. We'd give each other medals for doing our part for population control.

71. If men were the ones to get pregnant, humans would be extinct by now
Let's face it, most men are not going to sacrifice 9 months of their life to carrying it, and after going through labor once, won't likely do it again.

72. One could argue that many women want to control men
by advocating for a culture of abortion on demand. It is a way for them to get back at "the patriarchy".

To these women, the man is only good for sperm and money. And most of the children they conceive aren't even good for that much - they get thrown out in the trash like garbage. Then the women use a self-righteous libertarian argument to defend it (when most of the time they believe in authoritarianism/state control).

But I don't think most women think this way -- only the self-centered, culturally elite (mostly white) women. They are the ones who create culture. It's unfortunate that women and families who pay the price for these abhorrent values are usually poor and minority.

I'm Indian-American and grew up in NYC - saw all of this bullshit firsthand. I lived under these policies, instead of talking about them over coffee and poetry readings.

The Democrats should think twice if they think minorities are happy with them - no minority group I know of is liberal. Bush got a good percentage of the Hispanic vote and more of the black vote in '04. I've always been an independent - voted for Clinton twice, Bush '00, Kerry/ABB '04. I don't plan on voting Dem again in the near future, unless it is someone more conservative like Clinton.

The Republicans may have some racist white guys in their midst, but most of their policies are better for families and middle class people, IMO. And frankly, most minorities have much bigger problems than racism: the breakdown of the family, young men having no self worth as a man being forced to turn to violence for "respect", young women having no respect for their bodies. These are neighborhoods controlled by liberal Democrats.

Have you read anything on the budget they just proposed? So much of this post reads like RW talking points but you truly revealed yourself with that line.
