when I was a child. So why would I see commercials on TV asking aliens to report to the nearest post office in order to register? That scared me more than the commercials where the Dreyfus lion would come out of the subway station!

7. I'd like to close the borders.

Or at the very least allow the border guards to enforce the existing laws. The amount of illegals that get in is ridiculous, the government claims to be so concerned with terrorism but they do nothing to protect the borders. There are legal ways to gain citizenship, I would like to see those avenues pursued and the illegals tossed.

A more humanitarian approach could be in order that would be mutually beneficial to us and the undocumented nationals of other countries. Don't expect it from our present lawmakers though.

illegal: Prohibited by law.

My wife is from another country. She is an alien. She is here legally. Has a green card, etc. She's a legal alien. If she gets citizenship, she will no longer be an alien.

How much more clear can that be?

I say hell no to closing the borders. We should keep collecting the "tired, hungry, and poor..." until every oppressed person from every oppressed country is in America, then set them up back in their own countries with better governments. As opposed to bombing the hell out of country after country and forcing democracy on people. Well, it seems like a possible plan. I am not against "illegal" or "legal" aliens. Or ufos. They can become assets to the country if welcomed and given the opportunity to succeed and diversify the country.
