Forced to Post ---Bush Protest in Ft Lauderdale, Fl
Today in South Florida, Mr. Bush showed up to fundraise and hobnob with the well to do. Florida Grassroot Dems from Martin County south to Dade County rallied to protest. Randi Rhodes of 1290 AM WJNO carried live updates of the protest on her show and had one of her associates (I think it was Tim) actually broadcasting from the protest)

Unfortunately I could not go but I listened to it all on Randi's show. First, there was a really good turnout of over several hundred. At first it was a little disorganized but then they got it all together. The theme was "Bush's Farewell Tour". Most people wore black T-shirts and carried crosses to represent the dead soldiers in Iraq. Also carried were protest signs and organized chants were done. When Randi left the air at 7:00 P.M. protesters were still there.
Got some local news coverage on most channels although one station in West Palm Beach, Channel 5, said it didn't think the protests were "newsworthy" Tim reported from the protest that at one point a reporter from CNN was doing a live feed on bush's visit and the protesters all got behind him so that a live scene was on CNN. This was about 6:00 P.M. (Hope someone somewhere saw this.)

Now I hope some DU folks lucky enough to be there will post with additional, on the scene details.

1. Hon, why are you "forced to post"? Seem like a "delighted to post" to
me. Hope we all get some pictures soon.

2. "Forced to post"
I'm thrilled with the protest and the coverage it got locally. I was just hoping and waiting for someone who was actually there to post first with eye-witness testimony.

It was a hoot listening to it all on the radio but not the same as being there.

4. Don't you just wish that you had a magic transport machine that would
take you to every protest no matter where or when it happened? That would make me a very happy person.

5. was thrilled to catch some of it on the radio today
Had to drive down to Ft. Pierce today from Gainesville. Just before 3:00 I went into a convenience store in Ft. Pierce before getting on the Fla. Turnpike to go back north and had been listening to Limpballs and alternating between puking and punching the dashboard--but when I came back out 10 minutes later the show had completely changed! At 1st I thought it was still some right-wing drivel and was bemused to hear a woman talking about "Bush's Farewell Tour"--I "got it" pretty quickly and was overjoyed to finally be hearing some lefty radio!! I had never heard Rhandi Rhodes before and she is fabulous! I especially liked the digs at Repubs: they can't write the number 11 because they can't figure out which "1" comes first--wish I could remember the other 2 or 3 she said. I was in a state vehicle (every mile must be accounted for and work related) or I would have tried to come to Ft. Lauderdale (blushing to admit I hate this state so much I have hardly looked at a map)--ate my heart out over that. But after about 45 minutes of heading north I could barely make out what was being said because the static and buzzing and drift got so bad. (It was on 1330 AM). It broke my heart to have to switch off of that because it had been like communing with friends! All I ever get to hear normally in the car is Limpballs, Bores, and O'Lielly.

6. Glad you got to hear Randi
The Goddess is on everyday from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and she is absolutely the greatest. If you are in your office and have a computer go to her webcast--TheRandiRhodesShow.com which runs the show streaming audio everyday.

She did a great job of narrating the events and phone calls. One guy called in and said the protest was about to get interesting. She asked him why and he said he was going to chain himself to his car to get arrested. The conversation then went to him saying he had been in D.C. to protest and had gotten arrested. Randi asked "what for" and he said "armed robbery". I was laughing so hard I almost cried.
One person called in from one of the buses and was late to the protest. Randi said why. The woman said the bus wasn't air conditioned and so they all waited for a bus with A.C. which never showed up. It was funny.
