As the op-ed columnists of the NYT become more and more openly
propagandists, their bankruptcy of thought is becoming more evident.Tom Friedman is now showing terminal intellectual void;Nick Kristof is devoid of any thought, column after column.David Brooks seems unable to hold any conviction about any issue.Maureen Dowd, well, is a strutting peacock, engulfed by her own vanity and debases every topic she touches.

All this has happened because these people have given up their responsibility as individuals to be morally coherent.Their disease is the same as the one consuming our entire Pundit class.

3. Paul Krugman and Bob Herbert have
continued to point out the "deficiencies" of this mis-administration. Brooks is a RW hack. I think Friedman has gotten too wrapped up in writing his own book.

9. Krugman and Herbert are the only redeeming features of the
NYT editorial page these days, except for occasional guest columnists.

4. I am accidentally reading Bushworld, by Maureen Dowd
I went to B&N one day to buy a cookbook as a birthday present, and stopped by the "Current Political" table to look at the offerings. When I picked up Bushworld, just to look at the back jacket, a lady directly across from me drew in her breath and frowned mightily at me. When I smiled at her, she said, "That's just trash." So, even tho I had NOT been intending to buy the book, I said, "Oh, I've been waiting to read this book!" I tucked it under my arm and walked away. She just shook her head. I later found myself in front of the "Current Bestsellers" section with the same lady. I couldn't help myself...Where she could hear me, I said, "Oh, wow!" and immediately picked up When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops. Now I had 2 books to buy that I had not intended to buy, just to piss off a winger. Sigh.

I couldn't get thru When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops...it was just boring and silly. But, Bushworld is really a good read. Dowd, although a "me, me, me" person has nailed everything. Everything we talk about on DU is expressed exactly by Dowd in this book. I'm glad I accidentally bought it.

6. I had to laugh at David Brooks column yesterday
He was promoting KidSave accounts, a Bob Kerrey idea. Is Brooks trying to tiptoe out of the Republican camp and look good doing it? Or is this just another ingenious plot from the demented brain of Karl Rove? I'd like to think the former but I am suspicious...
