Applications to Naval Academy down 20 percent
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/newyork/ny-bc-ny--academyapplicatio0208feb08%2C0%2C3290763.story

Applications for the Class of 2009 at the Naval Academy fell 20 percent from the year before, a drop mirrored at the nation's other military colleges.

As of its Jan. 31 application deadline, the Annapolis academy had received 11,140 applications, down from 13,922 at the same time last year. The slump is the first in four years for the academy, which saw a surge in applications after the 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

1. I'm honestly surprised.
First of all there are enough people who would want to go to an academy from Bush supporters. Secondly, isn't the Navy the service that people go into at dangerous times so that they don't have to go to front line combat army duty?

3. General Recruitment, no surprise
Why is the general recruitment down for a wing of the military where if they bring you in you're going to where the bullets are? No brainer.

But Naval Academy? I'm surprised because there are still a large number of Bush supporters in this country, just over 50% apparently, not to mention kids of naval officers, former navy, etc.

It's pretty much the one service you can go into that will guarantee you don't walk the streets of Baghdad. Unless you go the Marine route.

4. My goodness, one would thing the young republicans...
would be lining up to serve their President, right? After all, they are very gung ho on the occupation of Iraq and want to US to attack Iran next, surely they would put their bodies where their mouth is, right?
