A Petition against the Constitution Restoration Act of 2004
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 03:54 PM by ck4829
The following petition is against The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004 or HR 3799.

What is The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004 and why am I against this?

It is an act that a group, known as "The Dominionists" are trying to pass, and if they succeed, the country would basically go from a democracy to a theocracy.

What is a theocracy?
"A government ruled by or subject to religious authority"

Basically saying that no law can conflict with the laws of the chosen religion. A modern example of this is in the Middle East, where no law can conflict with the laws of Islam, only the powers that be have basically taken the religion and twisted it around for their own power and greed.

What is a Dominionist?
A group of religious extremists whose goal is to:

establish "biblical rule" over every aspect of society -- placing "the state, the school, the arts and sciences, law, economics, and every other sphere under Christ..."

How do they define "Biblical Rule?"
"According to Dominionist literature, "biblical rule" means execution -- preferably by stoning -- of homosexuals and other "revelers in licentiousness"; massive tax cuts for the rich (because "wealth is a mark of God's favor"); the elimination of government programs to alleviate poverty and sickness (because these depend on "confiscation of wealth"); and enslavement for debtors. No legal challenges to "God's order" will be allowed. And because this order is divinely ordained, the "elect" can use any means necessary to establish it, including deception, subversion, even violence."

So basically, if this act is passed, the powers that be could pretty much do whatever they wanted under the name of Christ, and if someone disagreed or tried to go against the powers that be, they would be punished for they are going against the law, and thus the laws of god. What these laws are - are to be determined and decided by the powers that be. How convenient.

I know. You’re probably saying “What?!” It sounds absolutely crazy! I almost fell out of my chair when I first heard about it. But, this is all too real, people. This bill does exist and is trying to get passed in congress.

You might even be saying “But isn’t this is a complete contradiction of the idea of separation of church and state?” It is, but keep in mind the following two things. One : we have “in god we trust” printed on our currency, so how separate are we really? And two: these Dominionists are very powerful people. They are rich. They have vast political connections, including support from the supreme court.

This isn't some small harmless group, meeting up in their basements every Monday night. This is serious. We can not just sit and hope that this does not get passed. We certainly can not assume that it's just TOO radical and too "zany" for it to ever take flight. If you look throughout history, this world has a habit of "zany" things taking place. America is NO exception.

I looked on the internet and already saw TWO petitions asking people to support this act, so that they could "save" the country from some apparent Atheist Coup. "Don't let black-robed tyrants turn America into an atheist state!"

Please join me in standing up and against this insane act by signing this petition, and passing this on to as many people you know. Together we make change and stop this act of massive absurdity from becoming a reality!

Thank you.

Please do anything and everything possible to spread the word about this petition.

5. Republicans say "Clean Air Act". It really means "Legal Air Pollution Act"
You just switch a word around or two and you get what the Republicans are really trying to get at.

8. Not to hijack the thread...
...but I don't think I've been here long enough to start discussions, and I wanted to get opinions on this. Since this is a constitution thread, I thought it might fit in. I also apologize for the link...it's not to the original article, but to another forum that I used to frequent (got to check in on the crazies from time to time).

http://www.grunt.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=35866

And I also signed the petition.

12. Actually, You DO Have Enough Posts To Start Your Own Thread....
I think you only need 5. At least, that was all I needed when I joined DU.

The best way to know is to just try posting your own thread and see.

If you post it, I'll comment on it there. Let's not hijack this thread with what is SURE to be a very controversial topic, such as you have presented.

Thanks.

9. Hey! I Found Something Interesting....
digging deeper into this, I went to the Yurica Report...and there, Phred (misspelling intentional) Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church website is mentioned.

And THIS is an excerpt from that web page...bolds my addition

In Amos 4:11, the "fag" is the person who is sinning after the manner of Sodom and Gomorrah, has seen other "fags" overthrown by God, and still refuses to repent. So, the word "fag" refers to people who sin like the Sodomites did. It not only refers to homosexuals, but also refers to people who support homosexuals (see Romans 1:32), and people who engage in all other relatively "lesser" perversions (like impenitent premarital sex and adultery, including the adultery of all of you divorced-and-remarried "born again Christians"). On this web site, we use the word "fag" in accordance with Amos 4:11.

Does this mean Saint Ronnie Reagan is now burning in Hell?

When did Reagan die? Was it June 9 last year?? I think so. In which case, now...how many days has SAINT RONNIE been burning in Hell, eh, "Reverend" Phelps??

10. Check to see if the bill has been re-introduced in this new congress
Any un-acted-upon legislation from the previous congress is dead and must be re-introduced in the new congress.

State and Local Law Enforcement Discipline, Accountability, and Due Process Act of 2005

Here's the link...

Or go to Thomas's yourself, and type in H.R. 354
Be sure to mark the radio button as the Bill Number. It defaults to Bill Name, and you won't find it that way.

14. No Act passed by Congress can be unconstitutional.
Saying this creates a theocracy is like saying Congress can pass an Act that says women can't vote and all of sudden it is true. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land... not acts or laws passed by Congress. If they want to create a Theocracy, they have to pass a constitutional amendment and have the states approve it to.

20. I think you have that wrong.....
Acts passed by Congress can easily be found unconstitutional. But I suspect that by definition no amendment can be unconstitutional.

I'm surprised that so few people have signed it! What's going on?
