Every time. Everywhere. Gather groups to march on the media in your town until we cannot be ignored. The DC and NYC marches are not working. If there were constant protests at every newspaper, radio and television station, that would change.

I only made commercials and sold air time for a relatively small market, but I got a good look at the mechanics of it. I worked there from Jan. 2003 to Feb. 2004, all through the run up and early months of the Iraq War.

First of all, I have never met a single higher up in the media that was a liberal. Not one. They tend to be hard core conservatives. Even the more liberal reporters I met tended to look down at the antiwar movement. I was privy to a few conversations about intentionally ignoring antiwar and environmental protesters. I went to some of those massive demonstrations. Fortunately my particular boss in my little department was in fact a liberal, but he was the only one and didn't really have much power. His job was to make sales, and he was good at it. So he knew I went and supported me. But I kept it a secret from everyone else. It would have created problems if they knew I had gone. There was just an attitude permeating everything that you simply didn't question Bush after 9-11. It was unpatriotic to do so.

As for the media being corrupt, heh, some of our rival stations actually sold news time to businesses to do "pieces" on their products and pass them off as a news piece about some kind of revolutionary "breakthrough." Fortunately, we didn't do that. But the media today is all about revenue. The truth is, if the corporations had their way, they would simply eliminate local news because it's so expensive to do. They keep it because it gives their station recognition when they are out trying to make advertising sales.

The lack of real reporting at the local level was due more to a sense of false patriotism and fear of questioning Bush than any actual whoring. National news is much more likely to be direct propaganda, because the owners of those networks have a vested interest in the Bush administration. Bush was planning to ease media ownership rules, and you bet they wanted this. Combine all this with Bush buying reporters off, the rise of Fox News which gets its memos directly from Karl Rove's desk, and a fear in the country of questioning Bush after 9-11, and you have a media that is shoving nothing but propaganda down the throats of the American people.

I don't know if people realize just how massive a thing this development is. Can you think of a single time in history that ordinary citizens have become the watchdogs of the media? I can't. I don't think I've ever heard of it before. If we had a truly open society, what happened today would be studied by journalism professors for years to come. Of course that won't happen, but what we're seeing is just as significant as the invention of the radio or Ben Franklin starting his own newspaper criticizing the British. It is huge, and the effects of it will be huge.

Dear Mr. Kurtz,

How quickly you and Wolf forget it was the Right Wing Bloggers who went after Dan Rather. They were not ‘blamed’ for improperly outing Rather for what in the end was a truthful story.

You left off the damning evidence all Americans deserve to know which is that the WH exposed classified info (Plame) to its ‘ reporter’ Gannon. Gannon has no journalistic credentials that qualify him to be where he was in the WH. He does apparently have other corrupt type creds involving gay sex and military prostitution and an association with a GOP funded fake news front, Talon. The WH used him to peddle propaganda even after Bush publicly said this practice had to end and denied knowledge of it. (Many think Bush knows Gannon and some think a photo exists of the two in close proximity to each other. It is being looked into by others.)

Why rush to cover this story, and why be an apologist for Gannon today, and place the emphasis on bloggers who merely showed the White House Press Corps was corrupted by a GOP plant. There by corrupting access to information reporters could not get because they were ignored by McClellan in favor of the hand fed questions Gannon used. The American public has a right to clean information on the activities and policies of this highly corrupt President. Perhaps you should get a wif of what clean smells like, its been awhile hasn’t it?
