Mom allegedly recorded call made after claim was filed (Bill Cosby)
http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/news/local/10852383.htm?1c

Source: Cos offered $ to accuser

By NICOLE WEISENSEE EGAN

BILL COSBY was secretly taped offering financial compensation to the Canadian woman who has accused him of drugging and groping her, but she did not take him up on his offer, sources said.

The offer came after the woman reported the allegations to Canadian authorities on Jan. 13 and was made to the victim's mother, sources said. The offer is reflected in taped conversations, sources said.

Because the woman did not take him up on his offer, the tapes refute suggestions that the Canadian woman filed charges against Cosby in order to get money from him, sources said.

Yesterday, the Daily News reported that another woman has come forward to say Cosby drugged and groped her about 30 years ago.

4. He's an arrogant ass*&*(
remember when he walked off Vegas stage arrogantly demeaning the audience as they were all white.

Richard Pryor did the same...but in a lovable way...it's all about attitude.

7. my dad was the orchestra leader
no link. years ago during tv show era...although Cosby made LV papers.

my dad was also orchestra leader for Richard Pryor as well..but although he had to sweat out playing music for an hour...thought is was humorous.

Cosby's walk off was not humorous.. but hateful.

9. When Cosby first...
became a *star* with money and opened his own company in Beverly Hills, the word was that if you were white, don't apply for a job. It was pretty well known that he was hostile. I'm not judging him for it - just saying what I was told. I happened to be in the job market at the time.

IMO, he had some issues. He has also done some very good works.

I hate that these sort of stories dominate the media to sate idle minds when real issues never see the light of day in the same *media*.

18. Cosby was 1st black in a prime time TV show....network freaked for
a long time wondering if America (ie, white America) would accept a black in a prime time show

the show was I Spy and started at the end of the 60s

and at that he wasn't the lead; he was the 'sidekick'

Cosby has done well, but he, like all blacks in US, has had to deal with tremendous discrimination

10. Try to google it and see what you find! Richard Pryor, yes,
Richard's word to the audience before walking off, was; (What in the Fuck am I doing here?)

thanks for that...am surprised..didn't think anyone knew about it!
edited: googled and it seems it was part of routine...although at Aladdin Hotel he just walked off and didn't return.

Cosby's last words at the then Landmark Hotel (which like many has since been imploded) were "I don't need this shit" after derogatory remarks to audience. Real nice guy.

But when it comes to "stars" not many are nice at all.

11. Its called a settlement
and does not imply guilt.

On the otherhand Cos will suffer great damage in proving his innocence.

The thing I can't believe is that he lives in Cheltenham.

15. Didn't he just make national news...
...with remarks that were aimed at telling certain working class Americans they were leading themselves down the road to ruin? Didn't he get some dander up by trying to emphasize education over "bling" and self-discipline over self-destruction? Wasn't he trying to throw a kink in somebody's massive money chain?

I seem to remember other men who caused a stir by shouting about self-empowerment, who attempted to give some leverage to those near the bottom of the American social heirarchy.

If the blackmail and character assasinations didn't work on them, the bullets always came next.

Not proclaiming anyone's guilt or innocence, just offering food for thought.

14. A settlement, strictly speaking, applies to civil suits not criminal
complaints. If an attempt was made to get her to drop the charges Cosby's lawyer should have been the one to call, not Cosby.

I can't imagine a decent lawyer would have countenanced Cosby making the call himself to offer money in exchange for her dropping the charges. It just isn't smart, from both a legal and public perception point of view.
