We Must Call for a full investagation
This is a letter I'm writing to my two senators (Smith and Wyden of Oregon).

Dear Mr. Senator,
When you were elected, you took an oath to defend the constitution. This was the same oath that was taken by The President of the United States. We must remember that in the constituion is our right to free speach and free press. The ladder of those two is the subject matter of my letter to you.
A few weeks ago we found out that the Bush Administration had been paying off Armstrong Williams to talk up the No Child Left Behind Act. Later we would find out that the Aministration had paid off two other reporters to talk up Administration policies. Lastly, it was discovered that faux reporter Jeff Gannon was allowed into the press corpe of the White House, and would ask pro-Bush questions for the Press Secretary. All of these offences are threating to a free press, as a press can not be free if has governmental influence. We may never know who is to blame for these offences, but blame must be placed.
I am asking you to propose a bipartisan investigation into the events that I have transcribed. Free press is more important then which side of the asile you sit on, or who you voted for. Free press is more important then political power; power will come and go, but free press is vital to American Democracy. Please, do your duty and uphold your oath to defend the constitution.
Sincerly,
Eric XXXXX, President Young Democrats of America (Ashland High).

BTW this is a first draft, but what do you think I could do to change it.
Also, I don't expect results, but I'm presistant and won't stop fighting.

They're my senators too, so you won't be alone. Don't forget to hit the newspapers. And Walden because Rep Slaughter is in the House.

5. "latter" not "ladder." "Constitution" should always be capitalized,
since you are referring to the U.S. Constitution.

Keep up the good work! We all need to keep writing letters like this one to let everyone know not all of us are going to lie down for this BS.

6. We can call for many things.
Fact is that these bastards will just loft a multitude of middle fingers in our direction. The secret is, now, for as many people on the internet as possible to become their own Woodward and Bernstein.

Dig. Speak. Speak again.

They gave us the tool. Use it.

7. I agree that we need an investigation.
The Gannon case is pretty sordid, though the situation with the press and the Bush administration was already a scandal. The press has treated the administration rather tenderly, I find (Helen Thomas is a notable exception). It's as though they're all dozing or cowed.

Can you stand more suggestions for your letter, insanity? If so, read below:

*Constitution is a formal name and therefore capitalized.
*You mean latter, not ladder.
*It's speech.
*Senators sit on either side of the aisle, depending on party.

It's all right to use just "Senator" as a form of address. There's no need to add Mr. or Ms.

Go get 'em!

We are here to help you be impactful.

However, I urge you to do as I do,...keep both a dictionary and a thesaurus at your side, ALWAYS *grin*.

Also, "CHECK SPELLING" (or "spell check") IS YOUR FRIEND!!!

12. I have a second draft
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 10:14 PM by insanity
Dear Mr. Senator,

When you were elected, you took an oath to defend the Constitution. This was the same oath that was taken by The President of the United States. We must remember that in the Constitution is our right to free speech and free press. The latter two of those freedoms is what I'm going to write to you about today.

A few weeks ago we found out that the Bush Administration had been paying off Armstrong Williams to talk up the No Child Left Behind Act. Later we would find out that the Administration had paid off two other reporters to talk up Administration policies. Lastly, it was discovered that faux reporter Jeff Gannon was allowed into the press corps of the White House, and would ask pro-Bush questions for the Press Secretary. All of these offences are threatening to a free press, as a press cannot be free if has governmental influence. We may never know who is to blame for these offences, but blame must be placed.

I am writing you today to ask you to propose a bipartisan investigation into the events that I have transcribed. Free press is more then which side of the aisle you sit on, it is more the who you cast your votes for, it is even more important than maintaining political power. Power inevitably comes and goes, but out freedom should be eternal. The First Amendment is a cornerstone of our democracy; it must not be taken lightly. I urge you to uphold your oath to our Constitution.
Sincerely,
Eric Stroo, President Young Democrats of America (Ashland High).
Attached are documents supporting the claims made in this letter.

15. you might want to add
that williams and the others were paid with TAX DOLLARS that could have been spent on food stamps or vet benefits or one of the other essentials that Dumbass cut out of his budget. This kind of shit is IMPEACHABLE.

16. Thank you for breaking this into relevant paragraphs...
I have developed a strong aversion to engaging in reading long paragraphs. Yours are excellent:
Oath and responsibility
Statement of the problem
Call to action
