Is it just me, or is being a liberal hard?
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 05:12 PM by ZombieNixon
Isn't it just so much easier to hate and condemn everything that doesn't fit your narrow worldview that to open your mind and find out the facts before passing judgement?

Conservatives are lazy. Too lazy to think.

5. It's hard... It's so hard...
but I do it for the chicks anyways.

No just kidding. Knowing what I know now, it would be even harder to be a conservative. The guilt. Oh the guilt

4. That reminds me of something I said to a freeper I know
we were discussing the election and he started quoting Rush, blah, blah, blah, so I tore each point apart bit by bit until he shut up.

I said to him: Never argue with a liberal, we're far too informed.

6. Of course its hard
Liberal means challenging the status quo. It means considering the ramifications of actions. It means looking to your own assumptions and breaking them down to see if they are mistaken. It means seeing yourself as part of the solution.

7. right now.
The gay nineties were pretty tight though.

Ya gotta take the good with the bad, and right now is the bad, while the "reign of the witches" (Jefferson) is going on.

9. Oh it's WAY easier to be a repuke nowdays.
WAY easier.

Hell, all you have to do is not care, not listen, not think. Hating others takes a bit of energy but they've got all that energy left over from engaging in no critical thinking whatsoever.

You get to just blow off opinions you don't agree with, and if you are the fundie type, you can just yell "PRAISE JESUS" or something to make yourself feel better.

14. To quote Tom Hanks in A League of Their Own
It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard everyone would be doing it. It's the hard, that makes it great.

15. Not for me. I guess it's practice, but it just comes naturally...
Like any skill learned well, it just becomes a reflex.

Now, lying, misrepresentation, playing on the fears, marginalizing other people, etc. I find that DAMN hard to do anymore.

18. It is hard because you are never sure
You've done all you could to stop the war and defeat the BFEE. Even when you have done just about everything you could think of to mobilize people. And progressives tend to be more conscious of what posterity will think. It is an often oppressive weight but I could not feel good about myself if I did not carry on anyway.

20. I think it takes more energy to lie, judge, and condemn
than it does to speak the truth, despite the resistance.

I think judgemental people who are intolerant and have narrow, white patriarchial worldviews must be very unhappy people.

Liberals have more fun!

29. depending on the path chosen, a serious answer could be...
... you

... me

... no one

... everyone

More pragmatically, I didn't draw a connection to bliss. Both blessings and curses can be accompanied by bliss. So the presence or absence of bliss isn't indicative of enlightenment, at least in my world view.

Fortunately there are enough of us who feel that it is the only option, regardless of how difficult the road.

26. But the good part is:
reality is on your side! Think of the conservatives who burned people for saying the earth goes around the sun instead of the other way around.

You may not be around to witness your vindication, but then again you may.... how many people will admit to voting to re-elect Nixon?

27. I was conservative 'till 1991-
It's much easier to be conservative, because you are told what to believe. You are brainwashed through your religion, your schooling, your upbringing. You root for Repubs the same way you root for your favorite football team. To shatter conservatism is to break down everything you've ever believed in. It's hard to face the truth, therefore harder to be a liberal.

28. Being liberal is hard, that's why God made you tough...
Being liberal is complicated, that's why God made you smart
Being liberal is overwhelming, that's why God gave us good friends..like each other.

No offense to the atheists, I mean it in only the simplest, childlike way. ;)
