Did anyone here watch that Wife Swap show?
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 05:20 PM by Stop_the_War
I watched it. Basically it was an ultra-conservative fundamentalist woman swapping places with a liberal lesbian. The fundy was SOOOOOOO homophobic and hateful.....it's terrible that people can be so hateful..

1. there's a thread on this below
I don't think people are giving the sisters enough credit, they really tore her ass up and made her look like a hateful vile person. The fundy realized what an asshole she was looking like, and that the gay women were being the better people, but only after it was too late.

4. The ironic part about the fundie wife was...

In the very beginning she claimed to live by the golden rule and that there were times she couldn't be around other Xtians because they could be callous and hateful. But in the end she came looking as hateful as the people she claimed to be avoiding.

5. I think the really ironic part was that she was black in a bi-racial...
..marriage spouting off about how "sick" the lesbians were...completely forgetting that not so long ago people would have said the SAME THING about a white man and a black woman living together...

I like my TV too much to watch the show, but i saw enough in the trailers that I would have done serious damage to it had i sat down and watched....

I HATE fundies!!! :grr:

8. You know, I watched it.
I hate reality tv. Hate, hate, hate. But I read a thread here about it and decided to tune in.

What I came away with is that the repub's three kids probably discovered that lesbians are real people and don't have horns hidden in their hair.

The repub parents were uptight and controlling (and that's putting it mildly.) When it was time for the lesbian mother to set the tone in the repub household, the three kids had.... gasp... fun.

9. no, it really was okay.
because ABC was fair to the lesbian women. At the end of the show they came out looking like the better people, and the fundie mom knew that she made an ass of herself...and the great part was she expected the 2nd woman to be fiery and outspoken like the 1st parnter, but when the 2nd woman turned out to be soft-spoken and quiet-natured, she knew that she had just come off like the biggest asshole, and it was too late, so you got watch her sitting there gritting her teeth with this "oh shit" look on her face.

2. And were you aware that she is the President-elect of the Northwest Austin
Republican Women group. Her phone number is out there, on the web. I think one could google up the NARW and find it.

6. That would explain why she so convieniently had the freeper
yard sign ready for the landscaping work. Probably packed a few in her suitcase just in case! Where preparation meets "excellence"!

3. I saw small parts of it...

I could not believe them. The wife was basically the husbands slave, and the kids were the parents slaves. When the fundie wife was saying the husband wanted everything done "excellently" I wanted to smack both of them.
Then there was the part where the kids didn't have any privacy that sucked. The part where the lesbian mother took the fundie dad to the gay bar for dance lessons was a hoot.

7. i try and avoid the show
but did catch part of it and loved the irony - to think a few years ago - and most likely still now - many of her "friends" quietly whisper amongst themselves about that inner racial couple that moved in next door. Whats next - lesbians. Lord Jesus please save us!

11. oh yes, my boss told me very recently that "the bible says
you are supposed to stick to your own race" and she also said of a woman that we contract with: "I would have never guessed that she is married to a black man, she keeps herself so clean."

This poor woman, I am sure all the KKKers that she hangs out with are judging the hell out of her.

If that woman would really read her bible she would realize why Jesus said judge not that ye be not judged.

10. It's all about FEAR hidden beneath the need to control, which is further
justified and cloaked in righteousness of one sort or another.

The need for perfection comes under the category of fear of being out of control.....chaos.

I thought the Rep. woman's statement about her own family and background was very revealing of what she's running from. She could just have easily been the victim of similar prejudice (and probably has been) due to race issues and interacial marriage. But rather than see and understand that she projects it onto other 'victims' of prejudice.

12. Where's this Hamburger Mary's place?
On the Wife Swap site at ABC.com, the woman discusses someplace called Hamburger Mary's, which seems to be a gay burger joint. While I didn't know you could run a gay burger joint, this seems to be a really cool place to go.
