Senate bill S. 5 was a GOP gift to big business, and part of Bushco's effort to insulate corporations from the harm they cause.
According to Tom Carpenter, (D-DE) the reason for this bill was
"is to make sure when companies are called on the carpet, when they are involved in a class action litigation, they're in a court, in a courthouse with a judge where the companies have a fair shake, where the odds, the decks aren't stacked against them,"http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2005/02/10/national/w123626S32.DTLThat's right, according to Senator Carpenter, the problem with our justice system is that the corporations just can't get a fair shake.
Shame on the 18 Democrats who went to the mat for the tobacco, insurance, drug, and chemical companies who were this bill's biggest supporters.
