1. I decided much the same thing after watching that "God and Bush"
show the other night. He's like the Pope for Evangelicals and no one should dare impugn the Prodigal Son's motives for doing anything.

8. In a way, I can sort of see it now
because I also want a hero, one that will stand up for beliefs, right or wrong and I'm willing, if one stands up, to overlook some flaws in that person.
I think it's much the same with the people who like Bush. They relate to someone who's had an imperfect past, who speaks like the next door neighbor and probably scratches himself in private and farts, but who is sure of himself, professes to be doing God's will and keeps a strong, unwavering position. They ignore what he is actually doing because it's easier to look at the image he projects and easier to relate to an average (seeming) joe. And he provides, to them, someone they can admire as a hero that is out to get the bad guys in the Good Versus Evil battle to save the world for Jesus. That's why we can make fun of Bush and shake our head at what a moron he is, but it doesn't affect the Bush lovers, because his intelligence isn't as important to them as his determination.
I've also decided that "freedom and democracy" for the world are code words to the evangelicals of "freedom in Christ through saving the world" because otherwise how could anyone be for pre-emptively striking other countries and killing people?

11. i can understand wanting a hero but lets say you have one
say Kerry won, not saying he's your hero but for this example....would you go out an buy paintings and wall hangings and car crapola with his likeness on it? Would you never say he was wrong about anything? I don't think you would and thats what seperates us from them, idol worship.

21. I'd hold any President to the same standards that I
held Shrub Sr. and Clinton to, the same standards I hold every President and Politician to. I want to be able to hold them under a microscope with their past actions exposed for the whole public to see. Every vote, every action, prove to everyone who they are not on their words, but their actions, that which proves that while Kerry might not be able to defend himself against a rabid little terrier that he at least was of the stuff to put his butt on the line against dangerous situations.

Shrug at ya's history though is a history of cowardice, deception and failure with no consequences for his actions.

Why should we be surprised that he said since he was reelected that he now has a clean slate and mandate.

There is a preacher in Akron OH named "Earnest Angley" (Urn-est An-jel-ee for how he pronounces it) He is of the same cut as Bush, right to his little speach he made last week, "Power, power, give me more power, I want more power and I take it so God doesn't take it away."

Hate to be the one to say this since everyone should have been yelling this for the past five years, "NEVER GIVE SOMEONE POWER WHO IS OBSESSED WITH POWER AT ANY COST!" All presidential candidates want the power to a point, but many of them do not seek power in the level that he has. Hitler, Musilini, Stalin, Napolean, Ceasar and Bush, all great man at grabbing for power by exploiting small minds.

28. That's scary
I think it's cool to really like someone in that position but if you like them too much to where you think they could do no wrong then that's not good. Like with me I adore Kerry, Clinton, Gore, Dean. But I know they should still be held accountable if any of them did anything criminal. Know what I mean? Of course I'd be heartbroken but the law is the law.

5. Mushroom Nationals!
They love to be kept in the dark, and thrive on massive quantities of Bush*t!
Thus being the U-nited S-icko's of A-merika.

And their National Anthem is-"Truth Is Out Of Style" by 900 ft. Jesus.

6. I think Seymour Hersh has it right...
We have been taken over by a cult.
I don't know if you ever have had friends who were suddenly members of a cult, but I have. Their behavior is very similar to that of the Bush lovers: You cannot criticize the cult leaders, even (and especially when) you point out that all they do is make $$ on the back of their followers.

Now the next question is why do people join cults?
This is what I have noticed by just observing:
1 - Self loathing caused usually by repressed homosexuality. They "serve" the leader instead of facing their own problems.
2 - Inability to deal with personal responsibility: the leader absolves them, since he tells them what to do they never have to make their own decisions.
3 - Inability due to faulty education, to deal with life's basic dilemnas. The leader has all the answers, they don't have to wonder anymore (why are we here? etc.)

Cult followers are usually easily addicted, sometimes suffer from obsessive compulsive disorders, and could be qualified as "young souls", people with very primitive and simplistic spirituality.

10. Brainwashing script
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 09:22 PM by KT2000
I am trying to keep a list of the things people say about * when they call into C-Span's Washington Journal. It is starting to look like a brainwashing scipt:

Bush is a man of God
Bush is a moral man
Bush loves God
Bush is the finest president we have ever had
Bush cares about the people

13. they love him for his torture
i think that on a deep down, animal level, they want a leader who will not only defeat their "enemies" but humiliate and terrify them.
and he gives them a jesus story for cover, so much the better.

14. The Phenomena of Id Replacement
naturally, this phenomena occurs in most, if not all Totalitarian Nations, whether they are Left or Right.

Your ID is "replaced" by a tiny Fuhrer, so to speak. Others have mentioned the phenomena.

The Leader is the embodiment of good
All that opposes the Leader is treasonous
The Leader is Pure of Motive
All who oppose the Leader have Ulterior Motives.

Etc.

Id replacement.

Both Goebbels v1.0 and our own v2.0 both sek to schieve these ends, making a Mental Slave for Life.

All non-Party Approved information is suspect. Thus are the "cultists" immune from reality.

I would imagine that, like for everything else, we have predispositions to be Jeffersonians or BushPutinists.

Some genetic, some environmental/psychological.

The variety of types and situations in infinite.

24. authoritarian submission
Its a dimension of a well-studied phenomenon: right-wing authoritarianism. Whether its because of conditioning or psychological conflict, certain people feel compelled to feel all warm and fuzzy about authority figures - especially authority figures who share their worldview. Along with authoritarian submission, these people suffer from extreme conventionalism and authoritarian aggression (hatred and violence toward nonconformists and minorities).

A guy named Bob Altemeyer has done some excellent work in this area.
