I gave more than I could afford to give to Kerry's campaign and the Democratic Party during the 2004 Election cycle. I do fully intend to continue to regularly support the Democratic Party on a more realistic, smaller, sustainable basis.
I also make small, regular contributions to the ACLU, Buzzflash, MoveOn.org, and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State(and of course DU).
George Lakoff has really opened my eyes about infrastructure building and how key that has been in the success of the right. I wish there was some kind of coordinated "progressive slush fund" that could serve that purpose, but unfortunately we are too disjointed and our agenda (other than the defeat of Bush in 2004) is too fragmented.
So what, if any, progressive organizations do DUers donate to? Do you try to give much to one or two groups, or do you make lots of small donations to various groups? What groups do you think are the most important for the overall building of progressive infrastructure and for the short term advocacy of progressive agenda items?
This should probably be a poll, but it would be too long and there would still be important groups left out...
