Two quick questions about the debate
1) Who were those disruptors? Did anyone hear what they were carrying on about? (My view: totally uncool) It was quite unfortunate that they disrupted Bob Graham -- while he was in the middle of saying he KNEW Bush DELIBERATELY mislead the American people, because he is on the intelligence committee. That's a very big deal....

2) What the hell was Howard Dean's favorite song? I didn't catch that at all

4. The song...
is "Jaspora" by Wyclef Jean. I thought it was a bit of pandering for Dean to name it. I betcha he can't sing it. Here are the lyrics -

Men sa le monde antye tap tann
Wyclef ki sot nan Fugee.

Jeremi! Ayiti! Potoprins! Flatbush!

Poukisa chak swa wap domi ak Jezabèl?

Men nèg dyaspora vle Mennen nou nan otèl

Mape pran li jete'l nan prizon
Map fè'l konnen kiyès ki Tousen
Map fè'l konnen kiyès ki Desalin
Aprè sa nou mèt lage'l voye'l back Brooklyn
Yo pedi konesans kankou yo fèt san relijyon

Poukisa chak swa wap domi ak Jezabèl?

Mwen respekete nou tankou mwen
respekte zanj gabriyèl
Men nèg dyaspora vle Mennen noun nan otèl
Tonben pale angle vire "playboy channel"

Malfini bagay yo pral fini mal,
sou'w derespekte natif natal
Malfini bagay yo pral fini mal

5. thanks for posting those lyrics!
Really cleared it up for me.

I think the fifth word in the 61st line is voy'ow, though, instead of voyo'w.

What language is that?

16. french creole I believe
The song is from the album "Carnival" which is essentially a tribute to the Carribean's Carnival celebration (like Mardi Gras in New Orleans). Dean's state might be mostly white, but that doesn't mean he can't relate to a very diverse group of people.

If he was pandering, he didn't do a very good job at it.

10. LOL...
yes, he said it was his favorite.

It looks like a Creole language to me - probably from Jamaica.

And yes, I think Dean said it to appear less white himself.

Dookus... You're A-ok

Oh and I should add that Morgan State has a TON of Haitians attending...

Slick, slick move and my hat is off to Dean for being able to spit that one out.

17. The union sticker too
I don't have a horse in this race, but Dean knows how to play to the audience without pandering. That can go a real long way.

12. The Translation
Jaspora is Creole for Diaspora... All the names in it are typical Haitian names. It's a very beautiful song. Wyclef Jean is very hip among young Blacks. Smooth move Dr. Dean for the young Black vote... gotta hand it to him. Excellent musical taste

This is what the world was waiting for
Wyclef who came from the Fugees
Jeremie, Haiti, Port-au-Prince, Flatbush...

Jaspora doesn't respect Jaspora (repeat 4 x)

Ever since I was little, I left Haiti
There's some that went to Brooklyn there's some that went to Miami
Why do Jamaicans always say they are Jamaicans,
But Haitians are afraid to say they are Haitians?
Why? Are you scared to say your name is Samuel?
Why? Are you scared to say you're with Israel?
Why? Every night you are sleeping with Jezebel!
You're scared to say Haitian girls are beautiful!
Beautiful girls are beautiful...

I respect your name just like I respect the angel Gabriel
Here, Diaspora men want to take you to hotels,
Start talking English, turning to playboy channel
They do not respect Israel.

Diaspora do not respect Diaspora
If you are a Diaspora I am going to give you to sharks
Diaspora do not respect Diaspora
If you are a Diaspora tonight we're going to disarm you

Diaspora ha ha o, put your hands up!
I am going to take them and throw them in prison
I will make them know who is Toussaint
I will make them know who is Dessalines
After, we will let them go and send them back to Brooklyn
So he could go to his mother who is cooking in the kitchen
His mom looked at him and said "Man, you've changed"
She said I changed because I am Haitian
They taught me a lesson, they put me in prison.

I see Diaspora women and Diaspora men
There are people who are not going to make it because they will sleep with the fishes
They lost their knowledge just like a priest without religion

Diaspora do not respect Diaspora
If you are a Diaspora I am going to give you to sharks
Diaspora do not respect Diaspora
If you are a Diaspora tonight were going to disarm you

Port-au-Prince do not respect Diaspora again
Men Flatbush do not respect Diaspora
Men Canada do not respect Diaspora
Men Miami do not respect Diaspora

Pa Kayos do not respect diaspora
Papa Djoume do not respect Diaspora
Refugees do not respect Diaspora
Men Florida do not respect Diaspora
Wrong things done are going to finish worse
If you disrespect native-born
Done wrong things are going to finish worse
Disrespect Haitians you will get hit...

Jaspora has to respect Jaspora
Jaspora has to respect Jaspora

The son of a minister, Wyclef "Clef" Jean was born in Haiti but moved to New York at age nine, where his relatives lived. In his teens Wyclef began performing with his cousins as the rap group Tranzlater Crew, later called The Fugees; besides rapping,Wyclef also became a talented guitar player. After several successful albums fronting the Fugees, Wyclef released his first solo album, The Carnvial, featuring his band the Refugee Allstars, inJuly of 1997.

His much-anticipated follow-up, The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book, hit record store shelves in summer 2000.

Oh yeah, sure. It was totally spontaneous and not orchestrated from higher levels. :eyes:

18. On announcing
Where the Debates were being held I heard the announcer say that the audience was made up of 2000 invited guest. Did anyone else hear this? If the debate is rerunned listen for that to be said. It might have been said on the return from the break.
