Gannon outed Plame, planted rathergate story.
It all fits. Roves behind all the dirty tricks. Now we just need proof and more good muckraking by the free bloggers of the world. The MSM is beyond pathetic, and seems like they're a little to close to this story.

1. There's Still Dots To Connect
While I'd love to jump to the same conclusions you have (and not saying I didn't already)...we need to play smart here.

Lots of things kinda fit, but there's no real paper trail, yet. We don't have documents tracing payments and meetings and phone calls and other evidence that can prove those links. "Gannon" has opened up the door for us to start forcing the media and others to go after that evidence...and the others responsible for this massive deception and disinformation campaign.

We need to connect "Gannon" to Buckethead...find out more about the Eberles, check backgrounds and connections wherever they turn up, not unlike investigating the mafia. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will spill some dirt along the way, but right now we're just speculating...time for us to keep the sleeves rolled up and keep digging...and staying on the media about their responsibility to investigate this...or to condemn them loudly for their complicity.

It's time to shame ALL who abet this regime and no longer remain silent to the buying and manipulation of the media and the truth.

3. If I were investigating I'd start looking for ties between Rove & Gannon
if someone would do that, Rove might be outed in more ways than one.

6. That's A Very, Very Big Leap
Rove's way too smart to get too close to his own plant. Yes, there's a connection, but it's gonna take some digging to get it sorted out.

Right now, I'd investigate the issuing of the day passes and other "vetting" done by both the House & White House. Obviously, first in the crosshairs is Mr. Snotty McClelland.

Another front is to investigate "Gannon's" money...the Eberles (why is it I keep hearing Bye Bye Love every time I write their name)...two brothers and one of the brother's wives...who are up to their eyeballs in right wing groups and Texas politics. If you're gonna start sniffing in Rove's direction...here's where I think the trail begins.

I don't care about any of their sex lives, and playing that aspect up plays right into the media's hands that this is a petty, personal vendetta against one person rather than exposing a far greater cover-up.

9. Exactly
Making this about his sex life just play into their hands. It's about planting your own "journalist" in the White House Press Corps and manipulating the press.

8. The wayback machine

His site is shut down, but some pages can be found via the wayback machine. (this has probably been pointed out elsewhere here, hopefully!)

Here is a very paranoid sounding snip from dec 2 03.

"I GOT SMEARED!"

For the second time in as many weeks, the liberal media has taken a shot at me. Recently an article appeared in the Washingtonian magazine’s online feature, Washington Buzz entitled, “Can White House Stay on Message Amid Leaks?”. In it, political writer Harry Jaffe tried to make the point that the alleged leak of a CIA agent’s name by someone in the administration has caused problems for a White House that had been otherwise effective in maintaining a unified front in dealing with the press corps.

2. the crime of revealing Plame's identity was committed . . .
by someone in the White House. It was someone with access to CIA information. Whether or not they told Gannon isn't the issue. They told a lot of reporters and their shills. We all know Novak was the one who first published the story. The justice department investigation needs to root out the White House official behind the leak.

4. Rathergate
additionally, whether or not he started or participated in the Rathergate story, it was going to come out anyway. It was obvious those documents were suspect. Lots of people recognized it right away.

5. Right, they are setting up "Gannon" to take the fall.
Meanwhile, this begs the question of just who told HIM.

We know nobody in that gang wipes his arse without instructions from Rove or Cheney.

7. He can't take the fall for this one
The crime is not in reporting the story. It is for a government official to leak the identity of a CIA agent.

10. I agree
He will never fall on his sword -- he's too unstable a character. But this destiny may be forced upon him, and he will soon find himself powerless to resist, like all good patsies.

IMHO -- Karl Rove doublecrossed him, used him, and was playing chess all along, knowing they needed a good fall guy, and built the guy's ego up; he really was a nobody, a nothing, who was led to find himself inexplicably close to Power.
