Can military service records be verified ("Gannon")?

Gannon claims to have served in the military.

I have not seen this verified or refuted so far.

Has anyone checked? How does one check such a thing?

(PS I suspect this is another fabrication, along the lines of the woman who was caught lying that her husband had died in Iraq trying to shield an innocent child from gunfire i.e. The Fascist Mythos)

1. You can file a FOIA

They'll give you dates of service, characterization of discharge, that kind of stuff. You'll wait for eons to get the answer. Hopefully some lamestreamer's editorial assistant has already done that.

2. I saw the dogtags, but haven't seen any

background to indicate he was in the military. I don't think anyone has gone back that far - - yet! But my doubts are registered.
