Since we're doing political threads again, I will offer this one.
George W. Bush's speech earlier this week represented a radical break from policy and could well pave the way for easy re-election in November 2004.
Until this speech, W followed the guidance of the neocons he chose to surround himself with: most notably Cheney and Rumsfeld. The neocon crowd
argued that eventual Iraqi oil revenues would pay for the US war effort and the entire rebuilding effort. It was presented to the President as an 'easy in, easy out' operation, complete with intact Iraqi police and military forces able to perform much of the post-war peace keeping and rebuilding work.
As the mouthpiece for the administration that bears his name, W presented the same arguements to the American people and to the world.
This all proved to be untrue, of course. But now Bush has done an about-face, sent the neocons packing, and perhaps taken needed steps to remove the Democrats' lead issue from the debate table.
By acknowledging and addressing the chief objections to the Iraqi actions, Bush has played a 2004 election trumph card. Dems are now unable to protest the handling of the Iraqi situation, because Bush has already taken steps to reverse our former course of action.
Look for quiet Rumsfeld and Cheny resignations between now and the next swearing in. Look for Democrats to be accused of arguing over history past, should they bring up the Iraqi situation. Look for Democratic Presidential 'wannabe's' scrambling for a new issue to grab hold of, especially as the economy reflects modest gains in a few different areas.
Not good news for liberals. I wonder who has taken control over the White House mouthpiece?

I hate to say it, you could not be more wrong. Bush hasn't sent the Neocons walking. He is right now like a deer on a dark road caught in the headlights. This Administration will continue to rape America in economics, the constitution and world opinion until there is nothing left.
There is going to be two surprizes within the next month that is going to shape the direction that the 2004 election heads in, and I can promise you this, it won't be comming from the Bush Administration.

Billy, perhaps you might like to interpret the Bush speech from Monday night, then. Pray, what exactly did he TELL us in that speech?
Mind you, I'm on the same side of the fence as are you, but I am interested in hearing your interpretation of what Bush actually said to the American public.

Well for starters the American people will refuse to swallow that 87 billion dollar pill for Iraq. Congress has yet to approve it (and before they do some serious questions need to be answered that this Administration cannot answer. The Patriot act II will be dead before it even get to Congress. Patriot Act one is very close to being repealed.
And it is becomming increasingly clear to me that we are not on the same side of the fence. People on my side of the fence are not pessimistic. people on my side of the fence refuse to give an inch to those lying bastads in this Administration. People on my side of the fence, have one goal, Bush must go Before America does.

and to answer you question "interested in hearing your interpretation of what Bush actually said to the American public". Plain and simple the same thing we have heard for the last two years. Nothing but lies.
