Does anyone feel the world is waking from a slumber
Not the world, really, which has been wide awake and horrified for the last four years. Perhaps not even the country.

But at least the Democratic Party. What with an actual opposition on Social Security, Dean sweeping into the party chair, Kerry refusing to fade into obscurity, the blogs breaking story after story, etc.

I don't recall feeling this kind of enthusiasm for quite some time. It's not likely we were really an opposition party four years ago when Bush came in and everyone wanted to make nicey to "heal the wounds" of election 2000. The tenor of things even seems to have changed from just a few weeks ago when Condi was approved. Perhaps I'm just deluding myself, though (occasional delusion having been necessary, after all, to avoid total despair in the last four years).

appears to have been a "sleeping giant", to quote a WWII Japanese Admiral, regarding the U.S., and WE the people need to wake up and kick some serious ass to save humanity!

4. I don't know how many more chances we'll have to wake up
I think/hope you're right about populism as a sleeping giant :) We gotta save humanity, sleeping giant, we just gotta!

3. I feel it too.
Seeing Condi in Europe and then hearing about Bush's trips around the country to push his SS reform....I kept thinking Boy, things seem very tense...They seem tense traveling anywhere outside AND inside the country.

Funny how at first they brought A.Gonzalez right out in public. I remember seeing him on that ridiculous Ms. Beesley skit with Rove and Hughes before he had even had hearings. Then immediately after the hearings he disappeared underground.

I think that this admin. senses that the sheeples are finally waking up. This could start to get very crazy real soon!

5. woke up at the inauguration
I think when Peter Jennings said that he heard that there were tanks in the street and that this looks more like an election from a banana republic. I think that people started to realize how much the whole country had lost, before it was just stomp on the democrats, stomp on the gays, stomp on the dirty liberals, but then people woke up and realized that the country has lost from the disenfranchisement of the liberals, lets face it we're the guys that show up when there's neighborhood cleanup, the blood drive, the local schools needed painted, there's a new book of the month, or there's a new movie, etc.
We may not have all the money but we like to shop! Now CNN viewers are down, less people are buying newspapers, now people are starting to say "where did everybody go" I noticed it at Christmas, people were not in a good mood, they were quiet bought a few things and ran out the door!
