Americans are not like that.
The best possible take on G*W*B's social security "reforms" is that they would allow people to gamble it all on speculative stock purchases. If that is allowed, some will gamble and some will lose.

So you young people (I'll be dead) will find that you have a growing group of homeless and hungry seventy-plussers on your hands. The ones who gambled and lost, can no longer work, and have no income to buy food or pay rent.

So, what will America say to that group? Here's one possibility: "You made your choice, took your chances, and lost. So starve, already."

But you know what? I don't think Americans are like that. So taxpayers will be picking up the tab for those risk-takers to eat, just as they will already have picked up the tab for the costly "reforms" that enabled them to take risks in the first place.

One good thing about the Democratic party. Most Democrats seem to understand what kind of people we are. It's too bad so many Americans get some jollies by pretending not to be the good and decent people we are, and thrill themselves by voting Republican. Those thrills are going to cost us all a pile.

2. Joe Scarborough made a similar point.
He's agaisnt the Bush Social Security plan because not only will it run up the deficit now, but in 40 years, there will be a "Save Our Seniors Act" with more costs to make up to the people who lost under the Bush plan.

Taking 'Security' out of Social Security?

A new national lottery, where only the richest can win?

Why is it, that in just about any Casino, the biggest losers are given VIP status?

Some Americans are like that.

We found our thrill
Going down Blueberry hill

In an automobile
At a speed that could kill
