Mike Leavitt is the new Secretary of Health and Human Services.

The Christian Right does not like Leavitt, here is what they said back in December.

The Family Research Council is disappointed by President Bush's nomination of Mike Leavitt for secretary of Health and Human Services: "Though a self-proclaimed pro-lifer, Mr. Leavitt's record as governor of Utah raises serious questions. Dropping Utah's court appeal over its 1991 anti-abortion law has not endeared him to pro-lifers in his home state, to say the least. His veto of HB4ll, the sex-ed bill designed to stop the graphic, inappropriate materials presently used in far too many sex-ed programs, also brought consternation to conservative parents and lawmakers in Utah. The ways in which abstinence funds were applied in Utah under then-Gov. Leavitt should bear some examination as well."

Focus on the Family has concerns about Mike Leavitt, the President's nominee to become the next secretary of Health and Human Services. The group questions Leavitt's commitment to abstinence-only sex education and anti-abortion policies. "We would hope that the administration would clarify these matters for us," said FOF's Peter Brandt, "because, on the surface, Leavitt appears to be in a position--based on his past actions--where he would stand in contradiction to where the president is on these issues."
