10. This is even a Republican who is upset with it.
Good for him. He doesn't want to live in a Nazi state, either.

"I'm just going to post two pictures first and the story. I'll comment more later; one thing though: What is the difference between Muslims trying to defend their homeland by recruiting from mosques and Christians trying to defend their homeland by recruiting from churches? And this is coming from an old school Iraqi Assyrian Orthodox Christian. In plain speak, I think both are wrong any way you cut it. This absolutely blows my mind. This is another one of those whatever happened to the separation of church and state moments. Onward Christian soldier."

If a Muslim mosque did this - they would probably all be arrested.

45. Um, I don't see recruitment mentioned. I see support and would
caution that there may even be an offer of psychological help for these men and women.

There are churches out there with VERY effective counseling that truly does help to heal the soul. Give me another reason to be upset about a community honoring men and women that had NO CHOICE, but to go to a war that this country "mandated" they go to. those that "mandated" may have been wrong beyond words, but I submit to you these men and women would be hunted down and persecuted if they didn't heed that "mandate!" And they deserve some comfort and acknowledgment for their sacrifices.

Let's not persecute RELIGION. The real battle is with "religious" leaders that cannot control their desire to MAKE people turn to THEIR religion. Not every religious institution shares that goal!

BTW, I did read the words regarding GLOBAL recruitment, you may be right about this particular church, but I can't make that assumption without knowing MORE facts.

Each recruiting station's budget and expenses should be open to civilian review. Selective Service boards have strict rules regarding who can serve. Recruiters should stay away from events not related to recruiting....or are these older rethugs going to enlist????????

13. Call Me Heartless But...
I sure hope there's recruting going on in those bastions of flag waiving and bible-thumping. Better them than my son or someone else's who doesn't believe in this immoral invasion.

Maybe a few will have experiences in Iraq that will change their lives and when they return they spread the word in those area about the horrors that are going on there. Also to the gross incompetence they experience in a military run for corporate greed. These aren't messages getting into those areas now.

I figure, by now if someone doesn't know or want to know about how wrong this invasion is, deserves to experience some reality for once.

41. I have a 1910 version of the Encyclopedia Britannica
and I was noticing the section they have on American Indians.

They have a chart over several pages that notes how many of what tribe (and "stock" ;wtf: ), their condition, whether they are civilized or not. And what denomination of Christianity is doing the "civilizing".

The descriptions are written by different groups - so a couple of the more sympathetic notes mention things like that the civilizing is killing them off - causing alcoholism and destitution.

But that was far in the minority. Most of the notes listed things like whether their "morals" were improving - whether they were being assimilated - becoming American citizens, becoming Catholics or whatever.

Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 12:56 PM by bush_is_wacko
"To worship God, GLOBALLY lead people to faith in Christ, and grow together to be like him"

Churches and Veterans groups have been doing this since WWII. It really is a part of life for them and I think it is a valuable service to the community. Please don't be threatened by everything churches do and say. Church is really not the enemy. the enemy is church leader's that cannot resist FORCING religion on the government and humanity. I can't decide if this church is being controlled by one of those leaders or not, can you?

You do realize that the military regularly prays before entering battle, right. It is comforting to them to do so. They pray for God's forgiveness, understanding, and blessing.

War is NEVER ideal, but it has existed since time began. Even the bible asks soldiers to do this before going into battle.

Anyway, at least consider that faith can give comfort to those dying on a battlefield for whatever reason and these men and women often don't have a choice about going to war. I would venture to say many of our soldiers didn't want to go to Iraq and don't want to be there now. Jesus would forgive those men and women. At least I think so.

Truly repentant people needing God's help, whether you are religious or not, can be comforted by religion.

Porter Missions and Community Outreach
Being “on mission with God” is the very heartbeat of Porter Memorial Baptist Church. We strive to be a Great Commission church, and we take seriously Jesus’ command in Acts 1:8 to be witnesses of Him in our Jerusalem, our Judea, our Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Until our Lord returns we want to be taking the Gospel to every tribe, tongue people and nation so that they may all have opportunity to live in “the light of the knowledge of the of the glory of God, in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6)"

####

Spread Christianity to "every tribe, tongue, people and nation." Even if that includes killing off Muslims.

This is not all innocent, it's oppressive.

48. As I said, it may indeed be but churches often do give some comfort to
our soldiers. Is there a secular group doing the same in the area? Maybe that would be an effort worth pursuing at a grassroots effort?

I actually think it would benefit both our soldiers and our communities to openly honor them like this. Soldiers are want to see the citizens that are supporting them. They have been away from the real world for a very long time and it would be a shame if they thought the ONLY people supporting them were radical right-wing religions, don't you think?

44. I just saw this linked at Bilmon.
Guess this is part of the more "aggressive" recruiting we've been hearing about- assure the youngsters that God will protect them in battle. Just very sick. change some locations and make a translation and you've got a "martyr's" brigade.

Even as I had already taken these photographs of something that I clearly know is wrong, hell we ended with “I‘m proud to be an American”, after a sermon and a combined rendition of all the services anthems. I was conflicted. I knew, and know that almost all of the people I’m depending on to bring this to light disagree with me on virtually every issue. I wasn’t going to release this unless they were recruiting. They were.
Jesus himself only got mad once. It was because merchants were using the church to sell their wares, he flipped their tables, seized a whip, and attacked them. This day the answer to “what would Jesus do?” is grab one of the m-16s laying around and start kneecapping.
