WE, the DEMOCRATS, are the party of Lincoln

Don't you hate how the Republicans say "we are the party of lincoln"? I think if Lincoln were alive TODAY he would choose the Democratic Party and not the racist Republicans. Yes, Lincoln was a Republican BY NAME, but by today's standards of what is Republican or Democrat, I think he is a Democrat. I hope that made sense.

he changed parties in 1864 because he couldnt stand them anymore & was elected and served his second term under union party

2. Yes, abolition was definitely a liberal cause

with roots in the Quaker communities of the 18th century.

Most definitely. The modern Republicans would say that the Homestead Act was just another government giveaway and the freeing of the slaves was expropriation of the means of production and a drag on the economy. Although they would probably go along with the suspension of Habeas Corpus.
